4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
bottle. Aroma: Big maltiness, some dark fruits, light chocolate, and some alcohol. Maybe a whisper of smoke in the aroma? Big aroma. Appearance: Dark brown, with dark red highlights when held to the light. Light tan head that collapsed quickly. Some nice lacing. Flavor: Malt from the aroma continues in the flavor. Big roasted malt flavor with large caramel and toffee flavors. Dark fruits. Some peatiness also peeking through in the finish. Hop bitterness is high for the style, but enjoyable. A nice sweet finish, but isn’t sticky at all. Palate: Full bodied and slightly chewy. Medium carbonation. Alcohol leaves a nice warming on the tongue. Overall: A great beer. Maltiness is king here and it really shines through. The hopping is right on the money. Just enough to keep it from getting to sweet, not to much to overshadow the malt. Definately buying more of this.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Complex malt character, pleasantly sweet but with that little hop kick in there too. Alcohol makes itself known in a nice way. Delicious beer from a brewery I wish I had known about earlier.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Good Scotch Ale, pours a lovely redish brown with small head.
Not a lasting aftertaste to note, but the ABV packs a velvet punch with the swallow. A nice beer that I’ll have to repeat in the Fall.

3.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
When poured I was surprised to see a hint of red in the color. This is mostly brown, with not much head and a slight red tint. The aroma is what really caught my attention. A very malty scent, but I caught the faintest bit of fruitiness to it. The taste is slightly sugary, and has the faintest hint of spice. It swallows smooth and leaves a short lived aftertaste I enjoy more than the flavor.

Slightly sweet, malty, with some caramel and spice. Zero aftertaste which was strange, but very good flavor while it lasted. ABV is warming all the way down.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is one fine scotch ale. The pour is dark with a very nice brown head. The aroma is malt with some caramel mixed in. The flavor is very, very nice. The tastes are of a sweet malt, with hints of caramel, and brown sugar. The mouthfeel is thick and pleasing, and this one finishes smooth as silk. Second only to Wee Heavy in my opinion."

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours out a very dark brown color with a slight tan head. Aroma is very malty. The flavor is also very malty and as the discription depicts, hints of smoke. This is a nice example of a scotch ale. The one I drank had a little dust on it so I guess it was an Old Dirty Bastard.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a hazy dark brown red with a substantial though thinning tan head. The nose is particularly noteworthy. Creamy rich malt lends caramel, toffee, and event hints of chocolate to this ale. Intermingled with the alcohol are whispers of smoke and light floral hops. The mouthfeel is unbelievably over the top. Incredibly luxurious, I would expect this feel much more from an imperial stout than a scotch ale. The flavors do not disappoint. Big sweet malt lends a nice backdrop over which the roast and smoke can play. There’s some definite alcohol in the flavor helping to cut the sweetness as well as a some gentle engish style hops. I really enjoyed this, and perhaps it should be rated even higher, but compared to the aroma and the mouthfeel, I just couldn’t justify bringing the flavor up any. A delightful brew by any means.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Red colored beer with cloudy brown in the middle and a creamy looking tan head. The aroma is awesome- malty, chocolate, toffee, sweet. The flavour has the malty chocolate but also caramel, grapes, and hops, some smoky flavours and bitterness in the finish. Creamy, smooth, but still soft and flowy in texture. I would like this beer a lot for the aroma alone, but luckily it has the full package.

Bottle from Tom (oldgrowth) Thanks! Brown colored pour. Head is there, then it goes away pretty quick. Taste is malty and rich, and very smooth. All these beers that this brewery makes (that I have had) are so smooth, you could drink the entire bottle with one sip. Very nice, and not really a style that is my favorite, but this one is very nice.
