Founders flagship beer. Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. This beer ďainít fer the wee ladsĒ

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2014 On tap. Poured a clear dark reddish brown with a thin light brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma was full of sweet grains with a bit of darkness and toffee underlying. Flavor begins with sweet grains and toffee and has some dark bread in the finish.

12 oz bottle. Poured a hazy dark red with a nice tan head. Aroma is nice, toffee, dried fruits, some roasted nuts and maybe some brown sugar. Flavor is full and smooth. Malty, a bit sweet (but I like that), caramel, toffee and fruit. Very good.

Bottled. Pours out in a hazy mahogany colour with a small creamy off-white head. Fat and rich malt aroma of fudge, peat, burnt caramel and butter. Full-bodied with notes of burnt caramel, fudge, licorice, peat caramalized sugar and grass with touches of peppery alcohol. Long chewy and malty finish of fudge, peat, prunes, caramel and black pepper.

Dark amber with a small off-white head that settles fast. Minimal lacings. The smell is malty with notes of caramel, toffee and vanilla. Quite a lot of fruity notes reminiscent of fruit candy. The taste is very balanced. Itís not very complex, but itís rich and round in character. Malts dominate with notes of caramel and dark bread. Lots of fruit aromas. Itís fairly sweet, but nowhere near cloying. Notes of leafy hops and vanilla. The finish is somewhat bitter with notes of leafy hops, malts and subtle alcohol. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel. Very easy to drink. A balanced and tasty beer. Despite the sweet and malty character, itís very easy to drink. I like the subtle complementary hop notes and how they add a little something to the overall character. Serving type: bottle (Copy of old Beer Advocate review)

A hazy red/brown colored beer, with a thick foamy beige head. The aroma of caramel with chocolate and fruits like cherries, The taste is sweet moving over to bitter. There is chocolate. Itís dry and has some fruits. The aftertaste is dry bitter with a little sweet.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2010 From a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Bottled on 9/9/9 Pours a beautiful dark ruby with little head, turning to no head quickly. No lacing whatsoever. Aroma is of alcohol, plum and smoke. Taste is of burning, burning alcohol! Some other flavors are, dark fruit, smoke, pine (but not a hoppy pine really), slight bubblegum and dark malt. Mouthfeel is very substantial but itís a little too carbonated for my taste, just slightly so. Overall, this would be a great beer if it wasnít for the burning alcohol flavor which consumes the whole taste and turns it into cherry NyQuil. I really felt it on the way down. It isnít even that high an abv beer. Iím going to let a few of these sit for about six months and see if they mellow out. Update 12/27/10: Indeed this Bastard has mellowed out a lot. Much less alcohol a year and a third out. Plenty of peet, smoke and scotch. Still not my favorite but at least itís drinkable now.

26th May 2008. Like an old aged ale. Lots of chocolately malt and a fair hop finish. Low carbonation and not much bitterness.

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark amber brown with a small creamy tan froth. Aroma is very nicely blended with chocolate and spiciness, along with an earthy peat character. Very inviting on the nose, sweet but some citric hops, chocolate covered oranges. Flavor starts with a tasty dark fruit character overlying a nice complex chocolate maltiness and just a hint of smoke. Definitely a nice hop kick in the finish, but not overly bitter or harsh. Medium body and a sharp carbonation. Really tasty scotch ale, I dig.

Bottle from Beermerchants.com. Deep ruby colour with some sediment and a small, tan head. Rich caramel and chocolate aroma. In the mouth raisins and citrussy hops, hints of nuts. Tastes actually more like a barley wine. Dryish finish. Sirupy. Solid bastard.

Nice rich red colour with a lingering cream coloured head. Aroma is malty, sweet, and boozy, you can already tell this beer is serious business by the smell of it. Thick and syrupy, lots of malt and lots of hops to balance it out. Great beer, very smooth and extremely easy to drink. My favourite beer to start a heavy drinking session as it goes down smoothly and packs an 8.5% punch.
