3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared with tupalev & jerc - courtesy of tupalev. Mahogany colour with a tiny head. Big, sweet aroma with notes of caramel and smokey whiskey. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, but OK. Flavour holds a great balance of brown sugar sweetness and earthy peat notes, with a nicely hopped finish. Lots of attempts at this style disappoint me, but I was quite happy with this one.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a dark orangish amber with slightly tan orange head that fades quickly. Aroma of Chocolate Riesans. Flavor is bold with a faint sweetness in the up front followed by bits of wasabi on the back of the tongue and finally heat in the throat. Very well done and a good flagship in my opinion.

Dark red color with a miniscule tan head. Aroma and flavor of chocolate covered caramel with a little heat on the back of the throat. Very one dimensional, but itís a good dimension. Tastes so much like 3Fís Robert the Bruce itís uncanny.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, shared with Jerc and GregClow. Decent sweet malt aroma - some caramel and alcohol and a hint of smoke - nice. Brown in the glass with a small off white head. Nice warming alcohol, earthy hops, and lots of sweetness in taste - now this is a properly done Scotch ale!! As it warm it becomes very strong and releases a hint pf peat smoke in the taste. Nothing new here, just a very well done Scotch Ale - one of my new instant favourites in this category.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 24, 2012 2012-12-08. Crisp dark red-brown body, modest beige head. 3+ Very sweet malty flaovur has odd sugary fruitiness to it, earthy almost smokey quality that is probably not quite the right descriptor but thatís the best I can come up with today. Earthy muted peat in the background. Smooth medium bodied is under carbonated. Too sweet overall. 7/4/6/3/14 On tap at Coles, Buffalo
2006-02-XX. Brown body with a small tan head that fades. Sweet malt aroma with hints of peaty-earthy character that carries over to the flavour profile. Sweet malt base. Medium palate. Earthy character distracts for me personally, but I think I have come to realize that my mental picture of a scotch ale is not necessarily what everyone else pictures. I prefer those that lean away from the peat smoke and more towards the big sweet malts. Regardless, a very nice Scotch Ale! Bottle. 7/3/7/4/14

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
12 oz bottle. Dark brown with a reddish hue to the color. Quickly diminishing tan head. Sweet malt nose with notes of caramel and raisins, fruit and cocoa. Great body with a lingering alcohol resinous finish. Initial taste is sweet caramel malts. Followed quickly with the alcohol burn. There is a mild smokiness somewhere in the middle. First of the night and its gonna be difficult (but enjoyable) to top it this evening. Still sippin and lovin it!

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Brownish barleywine appearance. Aroma whaffing of alcohol, also barleywineish and some spice and roast. Taste well balanced though followed by tongue numbness. Hops at finish with roast. Very well malted, some sweet rather than bitter chocolate, and cinammon, and a touch of smoke. and an easy drink.
