COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Founders flagship beer. Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. This beer “ain’t fer the wee lads”

Bottle: Pours a dark ruby color with no head and lacing at all. Aroma is malty with hints of spices, raisins and plums. Mouthfeel is creamy and like a cola body leaving a sticky bitter finish. Alcohol is evident but not powerful in the aroma and finish. Easy drinking and enjoyable.

I thought this was prett good...on tap at brewery. Poured a dark brown with not head. Aroma was spicey, malty, and very sweet. Flavor was a syrupy sweet malt, toffee, and heavy spice. Mouthfeel was quite light, but also kind of sticky. Not very much like a scotch ale, but still pretty good.

UPDATED: JUN 6, 2006 Bottle. Pours red brown, semi opaque. Very nice diminishing tan head. Aroma of sugary raisens and malt. Initial flavor is very malty with flavors of sweet dark fruits. It quickly kicks you in the taste buds and diminishes to a bitter, sticky, and slightly alcohol finish. The flavors did not seem to transition smoothly, which made this one a little odd. I still enjoyed this beer though. With the exception of the Centennial IPA, Founders has yet to disappoint me.

12 oz. Bottle. from Dilly Deli. Bottle Conditioned. Drank 5/10/06. Pours clear deep amber / red. Almost no head Thick layer of foam that goes away almost immediately to a ring. Big, chunky sediment, no lacing. Aroma - sweet malts, raisins, plums, spice. Maybe a little peat and smoke. Flavor - really sweet and malty. A lot of alcohol warmth. Decent amt. of bitterness, but definitely dominated by sweet malts. Not as smokey or peaty as traditional scotch ales, but those flavors are present a little. Sweet and warm finish. Palate - nice, thick, medium to full body. Not a high level of carb., but enough to balance the rest of the thickish body. Overall really good. Definitely an americanized version of a scotch ale, but really good. Not surprising from Founders. Strong and complex, plenty of alcohol and a fair amt. of bitterness. I like it.

There is a pleasant malty aroma with an alcohol background. The color is a deep red with a creamy tan head. The flavor is malty with an alcohol warming finish.

Purchased in bottle in Menomonee Falls, WI. This was a classic scotch ale, much like McEwan’s. If there was ever a beer to put hair on one’s chest, this is probably it. A deep red color, very malty. This beer tastes like some sort of masculinity that I can only dream of. I had a few beers before this one, but Dirty Bastard is the one I will remember. A fantastic brew, very sweet-tasting and smoky but not overpowering. Dirty Bastard has a very full mouthfeel; one can taste alcohol when you breathe in with a mouthful of this stuff. I would drink this stuff by the gallon if my liver could handle it. Highly recommended.

Good stuff. Had not sampled a Scotch Ale before this one, but get the distinct impression this should be the template for further field research. Bittersweet, molasses subtleties, yummy!
