May 1, 2009 This is one of my favorites. A sensational scotch ale with a hint of peat that is not overwhelming to the overall malt character.

Apr 30, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a dark red color with a small off-white head. Aroma is of caramel, scotch, malt, and molasses. Taste is of malt, chocolate, cheap scotch, and brown sugar. Has a large presence of molasses, that tends to envelope the other flavors. Each sip ends in a lot of scotch and molasses. Lingering breadiness. Medium bodied, with a decent amount of carbonation. Mouthfeel is thick but goes down easy. The alcohol content is well masked. Easy to drink with a nice flavor.

Apr 30, 2009 Pours a deep reddish nut brown with a light tan head that looks good, but is short lived. Aroma is of sweet bread, toasted malt, and is slightly nutty. Flavor is similar, but slightly smokey and a little nuttier. Mouthfeel is nice and thick with mild carbonation, and the alcohol is well hidden. All in all a decent scotch ale, but not my favorite.

Apr 30, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours copper in color with a thin tan head which does not last long. Aroma roasted malt and peat. Taste roasted malt, bitter and nutty with bitter and peat finish.

Apr 28, 2009 Amber/brown color, fizzy tan head, mild lacing. Aroma of roasty malt / molasses. Flavor is chocolate and roasty malt. The chocolate is not overly sweet. There is a minor bitterness in the flavor. Medium bodied with a sryupy, dry finish. A good one, or two, or three...

Apr 27, 2009 Dark Brownish red color. A nice smokey caramel smell. Peat is all over the place, and nice hoppiness. Doesn’t taste like 8.3%. The scotch ales tend to hide alcohol very well.

Apr 24, 2009 12oz. Bottle. Deep mahogany color with a thin layer of foam. Nose is full of peat and toasted malts. Shows lots of malt flavors that lend a nutty sweetness to the front half of the beer. Some smoky and dried fruit character as well. These flavors tend to drop off quickly as the hops emerge. Bitterness is more prevalent than in other beers of this style. Doesn’t really show until the finish. Texture is somewhat chewy with a medium carbonation. Finish is short, bitter and somewhat disappointing. This beer starts out great, but tapers off a bit at the end. Still a very drinkable Scotch ale.

Apr 24, 2009 bottle. quite disappointed in this one... I love Founders and they make great beer, but this one is off. it starts off well, with a dark red pour with a thin white head... some sweet malt aromas, but then when it hits your palate it all falls apart, especially through the finish. this is incredibly unbalanced with the sweet malts dominating the back, while a massive mess of vegetable, spice and extreme bitterness fill the front of the mouth. There is almost no finish on the back after the ridiculous bitterness scrapes everything off the front. I love hops, but this just isn’t right.
