Sweet aroma with very light hops. Flavor is sweet with moderate hop bitterness. Extremely well balanced. Alcohol is well hidden. Not my favorite style but a very good Scotch Ale. GranvilleTim (465), Granville, Illinois, USA Apr 19, 2009 Reddish-brown pour with a tan head that ended up leaving a nice lace. Slight smoke and malt aroma. Flavors go well together- smokiness, malt, and then sweetness at the end. Leaves a nice refreshing aftertaste. Alcohol is not noticeable. beerandIT (177), Richmond, Virginia, USA Apr 17, 2009 Beautiful ruby red color. Nice head on there as well with some beautiful lacing down the glass. A bit of hops in there as well as a sweet malty flavor. Medium bodied. Just what I woulid expect from an American scotch ale. bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Apr 7, 2009 Nice pour... murky mahogany with a light orange-hued tan cap that leaves ring lace down the glass. The nose is thick with sweet molasses notes, with other dark fruits, figs and malts. Interesting flavor palate.... it comes off first as dry, just shy of roasted, with a twinge of alcohol to keep the bitters upfront. The effervescence of sweetness is never really lost, though, and the integration of the two contrasts is nice. The peat shows up in the finish, complementing the linear feel of the pull. Good brew overall, with the ABV well-integrated, and a medium-lively mouthfeel. As the body feels toward the medium to medium-soft side, this brew really exploits the contrasts and differences that end up complementing one another so well. sigma23 (217), , Maine, USA Apr 4, 2009 pours a reddish brown with a small tan head. heavy aroma of roasted malts and some earthy notes that i cant quite place. nice rich malt sweetness pushes through the smokey earth tones to give a nice complex scotch style. GMUcrew7 (353), Mason, Ohio, USA Apr 3, 2009 Pours ruby brown, with a creamy tan head. Malt heavy aroma, sweet toffee with some hops and alcohol in the background. Good complex flavor, toffee, molasses, dates, smoky peat and some hoppiness on the finish. Nice chewy and sticky palate. Overall a tasty beer. MrChopin (621), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 3, 2009 Hazy red-mahogany with a small beige head. Earthy, woody, alcoholic nose, some peat and caramel malt. Some peat and alcohol in the flavor, also a little dry bitterness. Bitter finish. Good stuff, not very complex but rather coherent.
