Founders flagship beer. Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. This beer “ain’t fer the wee lads”

(Bottle via trade with OhioDad, thanks Scott!) Found this to be decent but not great with an unexpected note of pineapple...Pours sort of hazy dark reddish brown with two fingers of reddish-brown biege head. Aroma lightly caramel, candy malt and fruity pineapple. Mouthfeel pretty smooth, a little thin, a little sticky. Webby lacing. Flavor of mild sugar candy maltiness, bit of caramel and that pineapple note that prevailed. No hints of peat or Scotch or smokiness. Pretty bitter. Nice but kind of unremarkable for Founders.

Wow, one of the best looking beers I think I’ve seen in a long time. Dark, dark amber color with a small tan head. Earthy, malty aromas. Flavor was also very earthy and a bit smokey with a slightly hoppy and slightly hot finish from the alcohol. This is some good stuff, espcially for a flagship beer that’s very reasonably priced.

Pours red-brown, with nice ruby highlights and a tan head. Nose is malt, caramel, raisins, smoke, and alcohol. Flavor is malty caramel and smoke with a hin of alcohol. A firm mouthfeel and a nicely dry finish. An excellent ale!

Draft at Dilly Deli: Dark brown pour with a tan head. Aroma was quite roasty with some chocolate. Flavor chocolate, caramel, nice and rich. Medium bodied. Quite enjoyable.

I liked everything about this one, very rich and complex, nice dark color, and the bitterness was rounded off with a spicy caramel/chocolate-type finish.

Deep brown pour, with a lighter brown head. The aroma is a nice rich hoppy aroma with a malty highlights. Flavor and body aren’t quite up to the caliber of the aroma. The flavor is lighter sweet hops and a much more mellow malt. Ther are lots of flavors in there, from citrus and pine to mollasses. Very interesing beer.

12 oz. bottle. Frothy tan head showing some good lace and durabulity bursts forth from a deep reddish amber pour. Malt sominated aroma with some bourbon , roasted nuts, and sweet dried fuit. Medium body with a rich mouthfeel. Sweet burnt caramel, molasses, and peppery spice are all part of a complex flavor. In spite of all the malt character, the finish is not overly sweet, and has even a bit of a bitter chewy tang.

Bottle. Poured a dark reddish brown with a moderately sized creamy light tan head that would lace considerably. A very malty aroma with a touch of rich dark chocolate. A robust flavor that fills the mouth. Very malty with a smokey roast finish. Nice.

Thanks to hopdog for the trade. Pours a hazy deep reddish brown, with more red coming through when held to the light. Large frothy light tan head that sustained and left lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, vanilla, oak, caramel, brown sugar, green hops and some berries. Flavor was a little more earthy, light smoke, hints of vanilla and oak, some dark fruits also in there with a sweet toasty maltiness and a great hop spiciness. Great use of hops in this Scotch Ale. Another winner for Founders!
