COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Founders flagship beer. Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. This beer “ain’t fer the wee lads”

Pours a deep reddish nut brown with a light tan head that looks good, but is short lived. Aroma is of sweet bread, toasted malt, and is slightly nutty. Flavor is similar, but slightly smokey and a little nuttier. Mouthfeel is nice and thick with mild carbonation, and the alcohol is well hidden. All in all a decent scotch ale, but not my favorite.

12oz bottle. Pours copper in color with a thin tan head which does not last long. Aroma roasted malt and peat. Taste roasted malt, bitter and nutty with bitter and peat finish.

Amber/brown color, fizzy tan head, mild lacing. Aroma of roasty malt / molasses. Flavor is chocolate and roasty malt. The chocolate is not overly sweet. There is a minor bitterness in the flavor. Medium bodied with a sryupy, dry finish. A good one, or two, or three...

Dark Brownish red color. A nice smokey caramel smell. Peat is all over the place, and nice hoppiness. Doesn’t taste like 8.3%. The scotch ales tend to hide alcohol very well.

12oz. Bottle. Deep mahogany color with a thin layer of foam. Nose is full of peat and toasted malts. Shows lots of malt flavors that lend a nutty sweetness to the front half of the beer. Some smoky and dried fruit character as well. These flavors tend to drop off quickly as the hops emerge. Bitterness is more prevalent than in other beers of this style. Doesn’t really show until the finish. Texture is somewhat chewy with a medium carbonation. Finish is short, bitter and somewhat disappointing. This beer starts out great, but tapers off a bit at the end. Still a very drinkable Scotch ale.

UPDATED: MAY 15, 2010 re-rate on 5/15/10... bottle... pours a solid deep red with a 1 finger off white head... subtle, yet pleasant dark fruit notes across the nose with some sweet malts. medium smooth body with some dark cherry notes, a touch of smoke, raisins, light hops and lots of malt. the finish is a more bitter with rich sweet malts. very nice scotch ale... I would like a bit more depth, but overall it feels wonderful over the tongue and has a nice dark fruit / malt character that drinks very well.

Very good aromas and flavors of peat and butterscotch. Nice full mouthfeel. Overall a very good scotch ale.

12 oz bottle. Ah, one of my favorite scotch ales (only topped by Backwoods Bastard). Pours a dark brown (with hints of red) color with a tiny off white head the disappears immediately. Smells of light smoky hops, some caramel malt, a little dried fruit, and a bit of alcohol. Tastes of light hops, though the smoke was more prevalent, a bit of malt, the fruit kind of disappeared, and the alcohol was masked. Very smooth going down, and is my definition of what a scotch ale should be.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2009 On tap at Coasters (poured into a Duvel glass). Pours dark reddish-brown with a 1/4 inch white head. Sweet aroma with very light hops. Flavor is sweet with moderate hop bitterness. Extremely well balanced. Alcohol is well hidden. Not my favorite style but a very good Scotch Ale.

Reddish-brown pour with a tan head that ended up leaving a nice lace. Slight smoke and malt aroma. Flavors go well together- smokiness, malt, and then sweetness at the end. Leaves a nice refreshing aftertaste. Alcohol is not noticeable.
