3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a murky reddish-brown with a medium beige head. Toffee, chocolate and peat in the nose. Whoah, my kind of Scotch Ale; bold and flavorful with a big helping of bittering hops that balances things out very nicely. Flavor has notes of dark caramel, peat, smoke, chocolate, brown sugar, cherry and dark fruits. Alcohol content very well-hidden. Full, round and creamy on the palate with fine-beaded carbonation. Very good stuff.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A decent scotch ale. Nice copper hue... smells like a tub of malt extract tastes heavily of malt with a bit of a caramel finish. Not a bad brew but not necessarily the best scotch ale. Not much in the way of smokiness...

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: SEP 24, 2006 Tasted with OhioGuzzler... Amber borwn, murky. Very malty aroma
Sweet and malty. A bit of an alcohol bite, some bitterness toward the end. More like a strong ale or barley wine and not some much like a scotch ale. No smoke flavors at all. 12 oz bottle, $1.99 from the Dilly Deli. UPDATE: Had this on draught at the "Founders at Dilly Deli" night on 9/21/2006.... It was good, but very much the same as from the bottle. 16 oz draught (8.5% alcohol), $4.00 at Dilly Deli.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
appearance: 4 smell: 4.5 taste: 4.5 mouthfeel: 4.5 drinkability: 4
Appearance: Pours an amber caramel color with hints of orange and a decent head.
Smell: Dark fruit, caramel malts and brown sugar.
Taste: A bit of tart cherries, green apple plumb and brown sugar. Then toasty caramel malt molasses and a shot of scotch whiskey dumped in there.
This one I must get more of!
Mouthfeel: Extremely thick and sticky, very chewy, like a Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy should be.
Drinkability: I love this style of beer but if you tried to session this your gut may explode =)
Hope this is helpful.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
bottle. Aroma: Big maltiness, some dark fruits, light chocolate, and some alcohol. Maybe a whisper of smoke in the aroma? Big aroma. Appearance: Dark brown, with dark red highlights when held to the light. Light tan head that collapsed quickly. Some nice lacing. Flavor: Malt from the aroma continues in the flavor. Big roasted malt flavor with large caramel and toffee flavors. Dark fruits. Some peatiness also peeking through in the finish. Hop bitterness is high for the style, but enjoyable. A nice sweet finish, but isn’t sticky at all. Palate: Full bodied and slightly chewy. Medium carbonation. Alcohol leaves a nice warming on the tongue. Overall: A great beer. Maltiness is king here and it really shines through. The hopping is right on the money. Just enough to keep it from getting to sweet, not to much to overshadow the malt. Definately buying more of this.

Complex malt character, pleasantly sweet but with that little hop kick in there too. Alcohol makes itself known in a nice way. Delicious beer from a brewery I wish I had known about earlier.

Good Scotch Ale, pours a lovely redish brown with small head.
Not a lasting aftertaste to note, but the ABV packs a velvet punch with the swallow. A nice beer that I’ll have to repeat in the Fall.
