Founders flagship beer. Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. This beer ďainít fer the wee ladsĒ

So, I was incredibly perplexed with this beer. I was told that I might not like it so much, but thatís certainly not the case. I donít love it or want to go out and purchase a case, however, itís not all too bad. It poured a light brown - rust color and was very cloudy. I simply couldnít put my finger what I was smelling and tasting. At first it seemed like I was smelling caramel, but then it went into an apple smell, reminding me of Fall, and trips to the cider mill. Taste was the most strange thing - after thinking about it for a while, it reminded me of breakfast...some sort of combination of bacon, pancakes, and maple syrup, all along with the fall (cider and caramel)...Just very odd. I liked it overall.

Pours a shiny ruby to amber color with thin tan head. Aroma is a bit weak with sweet sweet malt and a slight roastiness. The flavour starts off with some hop bitterness and slight roasted maltiness. Not a fan of scotch ales, however, this brings a nice change in my mind of the type. Tasty beer.

Dark, ruby red color. Small, lasting light brown head. Lightly sweet malty aroma. Full mouthfeel. Fruity, malty sweetness with just a bit of hops in the finish. Good scotch ale.

Bottle thanks to Daknole. Rusty orange-brown color, and aroma is also rusty hop, burnt sugar, the crust of fruit bread. Very smooth beer with great hop profile matched by delightfully fruity malts. Nice brew that is not as chewy as it smelled.

Another good one from Founders. Has a deep reddish brown color with a little bit of a yellow head. Smells is a little bit complex. Has malts, caramel, hops, and grain. Has very little carbonation. Tastes has a lot of hops and very smooth malts. Simply a great experience.

Bottle. Good stuff herr folkds! Red/brown pour. Aroma is really nice. Toffee, dried fruits, some roasted nuts and maybe some brown sugar. Flavor is full and smooth. Malty, a bit sweet, caramel, toffee and fruit. Very good.

Pours a dark reddish-brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet malts, toffee. Taste is toffee, caramel, earthy malts and a little smokiness. Seems like something is missing, however.

From a 12 oz bottle obtained in a trade from Eric in Indiana, the poured a hazy dark red with a nice tan head and moderate lacing. Nose of caramel malts, molasses, and some coffee notes. Very rich mouthfeel. Flavor is kind of classic for its style with lots malt tastes, and a dry finish. An excellent scotch ale.

A pretty, ruddy red in the glass with a good amount of lacing. Aromas of toffee, caramel, and a sticky, clinging palate to match those sticky aromas and flavors. The best thing here is the underlying earthy notes on the tongue. Plenty of grit to go along with the burnt sugar of toffee and caramel. Made somewhat hot by the high alcohol.

12 oz. bottle in a thistle glass. Ar: Unremarkable Scotch, whiskey, some grapefruit, liquorish. Ap: Amber, ruby color. Wasnít poured well, so canít judge the head. Fl: Malty, caramel, burnt sugar, whiskey, liquorish. Pa: Finished well-balanced, full body. I suppose its true to style, but one of my least favorite styles anyway.
