Commercial Description:
Founders flagship beer. Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. This beer “ain’t fer the wee lads”

12oz bottle. Pours a hazy dark amber with a 2 finger light tan head and spotty lacing. Nose is caramel, brown sugar and alcohol. Taste is smoke, roasted malt, caramelized sugar, bitter dark chocolate and some hoppy alcohol bite in the finish. Medium mouth feel. Not bad at all.

(bottle) I’ve had samples of this beer at tastings before, but didn’t rate it because I didn’t think I could give it an honest rating. Pours chestnut brown with a thin beige head and sticky lacing. The aroma is incredibly complex, with each sniff producing a new scent. Scents of chocolate, peat, banana, bubblegum, light mint, bread, vanilla, and some toasty malt as well. The aroma becomes increasingly peaty as the beer warms. The taste is very malty sweet with toffee, peat, chocolate, banana, and bread. The sweet flavors then switch to a smoky, lightly bitter finish that reminds me of some bittersweet dark chocolate. The palate is incredibly smooth and rich with a perfect amount of carbonation. I’m glad I bought a bottle of this, and could see myself purchasing more in the future.

On tap at the crunkleton in chapel hill. Pours a dark brownish red with a small off-white head. Nose is sweet with a bit of chocolate, roast, coffee, toffee, hops, and a bit of peat. Flavor is similar with a bit of alcohol showing. This beer was nice but overall a bit too sweet for my tastes. Not a huge fan of the style to begin with.

Dense and breadlike, almost reminiscent of kvass. Wonderful notes of chocolate, coffee, and mocha dominate with a smooth, surprisingly short finish that leaves the palate with a distinctly anise flavor. Wonderful on a cool autumn evening!

Pours brown with a tan head. Lots of caremel malt in the aroma and taste. The hops show up right off the bat with some flowery bitterness, but fade and the sweetness comes through in the end. Good stuff.

On tap at the Fed. in Durham, NC. Dark red color with a finger’s worth of tan head. Very malty in the aroma department with a bit of peatiness and brown sugar. Tons of caramel flavor and brown sugar. Light smoke in the finish. Very very very sweet. Thick mouthfeel. Good beer.
