joekinty (263), rockledge, Florida, USA Aug 8, 2008 lots of deep roasted malty aroma flavor is of malt bittersweet chocolate nice balance of earthy hops very great tasting wish it was available in florida HonkeyBra (1279), Lemont, Illinois, USA Aug 8, 2008 This is pretty much the best american Scotch Ale you’re going to find. Gorgeous dark red pour. Big nose, Huge, malty, smokey flavor. Especially pleasing if you love scotch whiskey. Alcohol is nicely hidden. A staple for the style. malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Aug 7, 2008 12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Dark ruby, hazy, with almost no head, slight ring. Peaty grass, earthy brown sugar aroma. Brown sugar dark fruit mild peat and grass flavor with mild underlying bitterness and some lingering fruity sweetness. Medium-full body and too little carbo. Something happened that killed the carbo on this. Too bad. Otherwise an excellent beer. BillWyce (90), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 5, 2008 Poured from bottle to English pint glass.
Reddish-brown in color with thin head.
Aroma of malt and peat. Good, solid
taste of malt with a little hoppy bite to it
as well. Not as much peat in the taste
as other Scotch ales I’ve had...not a
complaint, but an observation. A very
good beer worth seeking out. Homer321 (127), Rockledge, Florida, USA Aug 4, 2008 poured from the bottle. wonderful dark fruit, primarily plum and raisin. very, very smooth palate. a truly awesome american beer. WallyWalrus (205), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Aug 4, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a deep brown with a thin mocha-colored head. Aroma is sweet and malty, with scents of dark fruit, caramel, brown sugar, roasted malt, and a bit of wood and smoke. Taste is medium-bodied, with initial flavors of caramel and roasted malt giving way to a long, sweet finish of molasses, syrupy hops, and warming alcohol. A solid scotch ale -- strong in flavor, but not overwhelming. sleestak (180), Williamston, Michigan, USA Jul 30, 2008 Poured a ruddy brown with a thin, quickly dissipating cream head. Aroma is peat, caramelized sugar, and dark roasted malt. Flavor is light and citrusy, like the first icy lemonade of summer. No, not really. More like the concentrated essence of a wood paneled den full of leather, scotch, cigar smoke and academic one-upmanship. Smooth malt, peat, molasses sweetness, with a surprisingly hoppy finish. Alcohol only shows up as it warms, and is remarkably well-hidden. Medium mouthfeel, but very drinkable despite its complexities. High-larious brewer’s notes alone makes it worth seeking out a bottle. fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA Jul 27, 2008 Bottle courtesy Gillard. Pours a dark amber brown with a small light tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, sweet malt, caramel, and a hint of smoke. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a mild to moderate amount of bitterness and smooth alcohol. Very good.
