Commercial Description:
Founders flagship beer. Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. This beer “ain’t fer the wee lads”

Bottle. Pours a deep caramely brown, hazy, with a thin offwhite head. The aroma was sweet and caramely with notes of brown sugar. Taste is sweet, thick caramel with a touch of alcohol at the back of the throat. Thick on the palate.

Pours transparently; body of volcanic, glowing burgundy with wispy lacing. Aroma of burly pit fruits and strawberry candies; a pure and decadent but still soft note of scotch whiskey dripping with peat smoke and pillowy tobacco character. So rich, generous, and simple. Flavor is not especially dark but very deep, giving hints of peat, charred raisins, and raspberries to speckle the body of viscous maple, dark honey, scotch, and milk chocolate. A tower of carefully polished malt complexity. Medium to full palate is luxuriously silky with a distant sparkle of carbonation; finish is semisweet chocolate and caramel before turning tannic and bitter like a blend of a muscley shiraz and dry citrusy hops. First rate example; just immaculately made.

A fine example of scotch ale. Strong, complex, but clean. The pour is a deep amber with very little head. The aroma is intense--caramel, hops, and smoke. The flavor follow suit, with a very noteable earthiness and an apparent, but not overpowering sweetness. Finished bitter and quite clean. Excellent, excellent brew.

Powerful roasted malt jumps out at in the first sip. It is also full of dark fruit, coffee, smoke, and a hint of tart hop as a nice undertone. This is a complex and thoroughly enjoyable beer. You have got to love the attitude!

Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. Sneaky at 8.5% ABV. Tasty with a andouille sausage and greens dinner. Shared a bottle with a neighbor.

From the tap poured dark brown with a fair amount of head. Nice sweet malty flavor with a quick finish.

Bottle: Poured a dark brown with not a lot of head. The aroma malty, very malty. The flavor was sweet malty caramel with some dry hopped smoke added. Overall, this beer was ok.

From Bottle @ The Drafting Room. Poured dark caramel. Light brown fizzy head. Aroma of grass. Flavor sweet caramel, roasty, and grassy. Nice sugar cane lingering aftertaste. Smooth mouth feel. Medium bodied.
