Founders flagship beer. Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. This beer “ain’t fer the wee lads”

Deep mahogany pour with thin, clingy white head. Aromas of fruit, yeast, and bread with some wine-like quality. Flavors are many - prune, toast, cooked sugar. So smooth and malty. This is just great.

Well-known American interpretation of the ’wee heavy’ Scotch style, with deep yellowish beige, moussy, stable head and lightly hazy, dark wine red colour. Aroma indeed strongly resembles the Scottish examples of the style, with impressions of cookie dough, chocolate milk, brown rhum, caramel candy, hazelnut oil, almond, stewed pears, overripe plums, brown sugar, burning leaves, toasted bread, liquorice, subtle hints of orange liqueur, elderberry syrup, mint, cloves, acacia honey, wet leather, some damp cloth or wet paper. Rounded, sweet and fruity onset, hint of brown sugar, pear, fig, prunes, accompanied by a subtle sourish touch; soft carbonation, tingling just a little bit, paired with a smooth, velvety, full mouthfeel, deeply malty middle phase, caramelly in a slick and noble way, chocolatey touch, slightly nutty, with a subtle hint of roasted bitterishness in the end, but remaining subdued and not becoming coffee-like; finish also shows leafy and somewhat peppery hop bitterness as well as a fair deal of warming, liqueurish alcohol, which nevertheless stays very subtle and smooth, with only a warming effect and not becoming too astringent at all; the initial sweetness persists as well, but is in perfect balance with the bittering flavours and does not become boring or cloying at all. Very noble, well-crafted and balanced example of this style, which is not really my favorite, but in this form I can highly appreciate it.

Bottle from Fyne Wines, Argyll. Dark amber-brown with short lasting brown head; Very rich aromas of dark chocolate, espresso/coffee cake and boot polish with earthy, clove & star anise spices and hints of dried apple; Full bodied with a slightly creamy texture; Same flavour as with Aromas but more bitterness and more salinity. Big flavours, but big alcohol also! Only downside is the building bitterness and salinity as the glass empties.

Pours dark honey brown, finger of creamy head. Aromas of caramel, chocolate, a little fruit, honey. Really good, balanced malt budget! Nothing is overpowering. Taste is medium-strong sweet, light-medium bitter. Medium-heavy body. Love this one.

355ml bottle, thanks to Finn. Pours a deep dark red coloured body and a low, bubbly, beige head that laced well. Sweet aromas of honey and dried fruits. Jammy fruits and nutty flavours. Prolonged dried fruity ending. Well bodied and well masked alcohol. Medium to full bodied. Tasty late night sipper (Tromsø 16.02.2015).

emartell (269) - Zapopan, Jalisco, MEXICO - FEB 17, 2015

355ml bottle at Beer Deluxe, Melbourne. Pours brown with almost no head. Sweet malty nose, a bit of alcohol too. Malty punchy taste, with just the right amount of hops to counterbalance the sticky sweetness.
