mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA Oct 7, 2007 12 oz bottle courtesy of Acknud. Pours a reddish caramel color with offwhite head. Nose is a little smoky with malts. Mouthfeel is a bit on the heavy side. Taste is of roasted malt, smoky peat, some caramel and brown sugar. Alcohol is well hidden until the end. When the brew is warm, the alcohol comes out to play. The finish is a bit on the hoppy side. Bitter aftertaste. ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Oct 6, 2007 Old Dirty Bastard! Pours a deep ruby color with nice airy head and lacing. Thick mouthfeel consiting of a nice malty flavor. Notable hop presence on the finish chriso (4683), London, Greater London, England Oct 1, 2007 Bottle, courtesy HogtownHarry. Attractive deep ruby colour. Big woody, oxidised soy sauce aroma - not really my thing. The generous complement of tangy, resinous hops in the flavour was something of a surprise. The powerful, chewy malt presence was not. The two elements were beautifully balanced. Firm, weighty mouthfeel. Maybe a touch thick, with slightly volatile alcohol but those would just be very minor quibbles. Such a tasty and accomplished beer that my initial reservations about the aroma (which admittedly were more question of personal taste than anything else) were entirely vanquished.
nikola (3), elkhart, Indiana, USA does not count Sep 27, 2007 bottle to glass. full nose, very little head, little lingering head around the outside of the glass. the body is dark reddish brown. There is a delicious sweet toasted malt flavor and a carbonated mouthfeel. Tastes like an authentic scotch ale. reakt (938), Greater London, England Sep 24, 2007 Bottle at Chris O’s, thanks to Harry. Deep amber with an off white head. Sweet malts, hops and alcohol in the nose. Hops, roasted malts and whiskey in the flavour. Not bad.
