tbookman (618), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 11, 2007 Dark brownish/ruby color - big aroma of roasted and sweet dark malts. Flavor is sweet and rich, with notes of brown sugar, syrup, licorice and a slight hint of smokiness. Finish is a little dry and sticky. All in all a nice, bold scotch ale. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 5, 2007 Shared with Kinz for an impromptu tasting. Dark ruby body with a small off-white head. Sweet caramel and molassas aroma. Sweet malty caramel flavor with a butterscotch ending. DrHomolka (726), Columbus, Ohio, USA Sep 4, 2007 12oz bottle. Pours an ugly red brown with a small off white head that quickly settles to a tiny film. Sweet aroma, malty, maybe a touch of smoke, raisins, brown sugar, toffee, caramel, wood, maple syrup. Some piney hops. Taste is smooth, a little bitter, with the dark fruits being the main thing here. Sweetness is surprisingly low, which is a good thing I think. Drinkability is higher than the aroma and ABV would lead you to believe. One of the better Scotch ales I’ve had. jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 3, 2007 Bottle from monk’s in philly. Pours a deep dark brown. Requisite sweetness and massive malt flavors. Subtle candi sugar in the flavor as well. Paired nicely with the cheese and sausage platter with got as an app. Definiitely enjoyed this onen but I am pretty partial to this style. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Sep 2, 2007 Thanks to maniac for this one. Deep amber, floaties, little head. Deep caramel aroma, hints of molasses. Flavor is fantastic, deep caramel. There isn’t much else to this, it is simple, but great. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 2, 2007 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of markgugs. Clear, reddish brown with a yellowish brown head. Fairly complex aroma of rum and overripe fruit. Has a nice, full body with notes of nuts, overripe fruit and a rather hoppy finish. Complex and very interesting. 230807 kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 09/03/2005

dark clear red, whispy tan head, rich sweet carmel malt aroma with a hint of earthy peat and a whisp of alcohol, good rich earthy malt flavor, great carmel sweetness that dries out over time, picks up some nice smokey peat, only a hint of bitterness to keep the balance, the new benchmark in scotch ales,

drfabulous (1212), Columbia, Missouri, USA Aug 31, 2007 When I lived in Michigan, I didn’t buy this too often, but would have it at the Beer Fest each year. Very heavy alcohol taste that will sit with you for awhile. A complex, intense beer.
