Fairly complex aroma of rum and overripe fruit. Has a nice, full body with notes of nuts, overripe fruit and a rather hoppy finish. Complex and very interesting. 230807 kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

dark clear red, whispy tan head, rich sweet carmel malt aroma with a hint of earthy peat and a whisp of alcohol, good rich earthy malt flavor, great carmel sweetness that dries out over time, picks up some nice smokey peat, only a hint of bitterness to keep the balance, the new benchmark in scotch ales,

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 31, 2007 When I lived in Michigan, I didn’t buy this too often, but would have it at the Beer Fest each year. Very heavy alcohol taste that will sit with you for awhile. A complex, intense beer. troyc (1175), Lubbock, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 24, 2007 (Bottle) Pours a brown color with a nice looking tan head. Rich, smoky taste (which I really like) is balanced with some light spicy hops and a good dose of alcohol. Subtle notes of dark fruit and sweet earth as well. This is one of the better beers I’ve had from the style. JCB (1747), Durham, North Carolina, USA

Big and bold, with malts just pouring out and a big peaty aroma. Very rich and smooth, with a strong butterscotch note in the middle, balanced by a bit of dry spice towards the very end. Quite fine.
