gunsho (134), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Apr 10, 2007 a smoky, roasted, nutty head with a deep amber color and white head. smells great, looks great, tastes great. a fine scotch ale. lumberjack (178), Michigan, USA Apr 6, 2007 Unfiltered, dark brown with big fluffy head. Aroma is malt and alcohol. Taste is caramel, toffee, alcohol, and mainly sweet maltiness. Good carbonation, with a somewhat dry aftertaste. Pretty good altogether. f351c4v (404), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 5, 2007 Pours a nice red color with a minimal head. Sweet nose, nothing largely noticable. Highly malted and smooth, sweet, hoppy finish. Small amount of roasted malts detectable. A nice brew. Cliff (355), Avon Lake, Ohio, USA Mar 28, 2007 Bottle, poured a dark brown with a thin off white head. I honestly think that Scotch ales just aren’t my thing. They seem so bland and boring. No aroma, simple malty taste, medium mouthfeel and a sweet finish. I just don’t get this style... GriffinAvenue (395), Winchester, Massachusetts, USA Mar 25, 2007 Bottle. Reddish brown pour. No head. Icy, carbonated froth on top. Looks a lot like a Birch beer. Chocolate, malty, nutty aroma. Overwhelming flavor to tongue and roof of mouth. Malty, wooden taste. More like a brown ale than a scottish ale JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Mar 24, 2007 On tap. Very dark brown chestnut color with a thin loose white head. Aroma is malt-dominated with a general maple/brown sugar sweetness. Some milder oak and plum-like aromas present. Medium to thick palate, well-carbonated. Sweet, dark, candied fruit taste with some alcohol discernible, but not obtrustive. Dry finish. A very good Scotch, but overall it lacked some characteristics I prefer in Scotch Ales (peat, a little smoke). daernoth (1), USA does not count Mar 21, 2007 Had it both in bottle and in Founder’s on draft. Aroma of caramel and coffee, and sometimes alcohol. The flavor opens with a huge malty kick. The beer finishes with a moderate amount of hop flavor and alcohol (though the alcohol is by no means overwhelming). It feels heavier than most ales I’ve sampled, but not as heavy as most microbrewed stouts. Overall a very good beer! golubj (1275), Sunnyvale, California, USA Mar 14, 2007 Draft. An interesting beer, with a nice palate (somewhat heavy carbonation but still smooth). Flavor of sweet malt and some dark fruit.
