Commercial Description:
Founders flagship beer. Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. This beer “ain’t fer the wee lads”

Bottle. Pours a nice copper color with some reddish hues. Moderate white head that dies down fairly quickly. Aroma is very malty with a slight smokey quality. Flavor is also very malty, with some caramel and some earthy qualities. Flavor lingers on the tongue. Medium mouthfeel. Drinkable and enjoyable.

Courtesy Solan. Pours a cloudy copper with a very thin white head. Smells of caramel, and sweet dark malts. Pretty typical of scotch ales. Taste is pretty unique for this style. Pretty sweet, with a touch of candy sugar. malts are pretty big, but get a touch of hops in the finish which helps balance this brew. The finish is really smooth, and I get some nice caramel characters that accompany it which make it very enjoyable.

12oz. Bottle Dirty Bastard poured clear mahogany. When held to the light you can see sediment floating throughout. Sitting on top of the body s a finger’s worth of creamy beige head that sticks around. Looks good. When I opened the bottle I immediately smelled scotch. When poured and held to my nose I smelled toasted grains up front. Followed by a sweetness of candied dark fruits. The toasted grains remain throughout with hints of the fruits, a hint of wood, and vanilla. There even seems to be a little mustiness. Fairly complex beer. Up front I pick up a very mild toasted malt but it’s quickly overtaken by a wave of roasted malts and caramel at mid-palate.The wave settles with a deep roastines and caramel flavor. An earthy quality follows all the big flavors in the finish. A slight lingering bitterness shows up just before the swallow and lingers for just a few seconds. The mouthfeel accompanies the taste very well. It is a little on the heavy side of medium bodied. Nice and creamy like the way it should be. Drinkability is good if you drink this how it should be drunk. It’s a sipper in every sense of the word. That drops the drinkability just because of all the big dark flavors. Sampled 10/20/06

Mahogany / moderate head & good lacing / pronounced nose, with sharp flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and peet. Long finish. A treat.

Bottle. Reddish brown with a moderate tan head that fades rapidly. Sweet malt and caramel aroma. Big roasted malt flavor, with some peaty smoky flavor. Some hops become evident at the end. Fairly full bodied. Very nice.

Can’t seem to get out of the party store without taking a 6 pack of this beer with me. It’s nice, warming with a bit of a carmally sweetness. Nice representation of my favorite style.
