COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Founders flagship beer. Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. This beer “ain’t fer the wee lads”

Amazing, complicated smell, great red color, redish brown with a nutty colored head. Great bitterish flavor. Of the scotch ales i have tried lately, this one is the top for me. Amazing.

Bottle. Pours dark ruby with thin head. Aroma of berries. Strong alcohol sweeps into the nostrils upon first sip. Taste of malt and some licorice. Smoke evident. Delicious offering and another winner from Founders.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2012 I don’t have enough experience with craft beers to rate anything a 20/20, but if I did, this would be it. Smells of malts, some alcohol. Dark ruby color, like a perfect scotch ale. The winning part of this beer is the taste and mouthfeel. Full body, it coats your mouth with creamy goodness. Sweet, yet smoky, with a hint of chocolate. It’s beautiful, really something to behold. I’m afraid that my first scotch ale has set the bar too high for other scotch ales, that’s how good this is.

Aromas of caramel, peat, cocoa, subtle booze, and hints of hops. Appearance is ruby-brown with very little head. Taste is somewhat sweet, lightly bitter, and lightly boozy. A rich, full-bodied beer, with moderate carbonation and a long warming finish.

Very malty scotch-style ale with a medium brown to amber hue. I love the body on this beer, it has a bit of thickness to it. Very smooth on the palate with a nice aroma. If you do not like malty, thicker brews, you probably would not like this. Found all over, if a pub has this beer available, I will default to it if there are no other beers of interest available (malty, darks, stouts, porters, or browns). This could be an everyday beer for me (if I drank everyday).

This is such a good beer. The malt character is perfect, and the peat notes are very subtle and don’t overpower the hop favors. Even the alcohol is subdued by the flavor--you’d never know it is over 8%! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
