Moderate aromas of roasted and caramel for the malt, herbs for the hops, with hints of date and brown sugar. Head is small, wispy, off-white with fair lacing and good legs, and is mostly diminishing. Color is dark brownish red. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and acidic, then the long finish is lightly sweet and acidic, and moderately bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, oily, with a lively carbonation and a moderately astringent and very dry finish. The flavor in this Scotch Ale leans towards dry and bitter unlike others I’ve had, which is why I like this so much. Thanks Hopscotch.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 5, 2010 Pours dark reddish-brown with a minimal off-white head. Aroma is lots of caramel, dark fruit and some alcohol. Not much peet smoke in the aroma. The flavor is very fruity and sweet. Not too much smoke. You get a little roasted malt and the alcohol is present and warming. Medium mouthfeel and pretty drinkable for a beer of this strength. DeputyAndy (90), New Jersey, USA

A fabolous deep red with some slight brownish edges. Beautiful, creamy, yellow to off-white creamy head. Great duration. A definite 5 on the looks. Sweet caramel aroma, lightly toasted, some fruity hops, light raisin, red currants and strawbeeries. Medium to high carbonation, rather prickly. Fine, creamy and dry mouthfeel. Flavour is nice, sweet, caramel, a bit of roasted malts and chocolate. Some berries and a lovely fruity bitterness. Really lovely, actually. Slayer85 (596), Firenze, Italy
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 2, 2010 Bottle (8,5% ABV). A ligtly hazy dark red beer with a medium sized, mostly diminishing, beige head. The aroma is powerful and very malty and quite hoppy. There are notes of toasted grains, caramel, grapefruit, sugar, peat and some alcohol. The flavour is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic. lightly bitter. Lightly sticky, but enjoyable. Medium to full body, soft to lively carbonation, quite long finish with medium bitterness, lightly alcoholic. A cross between a Scotch ale and an American Strong ale, because of its overhopping for the style (but not so much). Interesting. j12601 (1412), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA

Deep ruby color, small steady beige head. Nutty and bready aroma. Toffeish, rye-bready, some chocolate. Aftertaste is strongly hopped and spicey (chili). Interesting spicey-toffeish Scotch ale. slayer02348 (77), , Michigan, USA

Aroma is similar to what you’d expect from a porter, instead of a scotch ale. Smallish tan head. Taste is great. Chocolate was most noticeable for me, with a slightly fruity aftertaste.
