RomanW70 (284), Providence, Rhode Island, USA May 7, 2008 Pours coke caramel with a smallish white head. Aroma of toffee, coffee, and whisky. Flavor a woody mix of sweet and whisky alcohol. Fairly warming on the finish. A nice beer, but I’m not blown away. Doesn’t hold up with Old Chub or Wee Heavy.
Jblauvs (117), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jul 26, 2008 Deep dark redish pour. peaty sweet aroma. Tastes of peat, bitter hops, and subtle sweet malts. a little odd. but not bad. craftycarl21 (124), USA Jul 26, 2008 deep garnet and brown pour with a small head. aroma is malty, with some sweet hints and a touch of smoke. flavor has some peat, not too complex, but also has the malt, plus a little hop bitterness. Palate is nice, smooth with a nice intriguing aftertaste. Interesting for a scotch ale, but a nice brew. after4ever (1652), Brier, Washington, USA Jul 25, 2008 12-oz. Thanks, Ben! Crystal clear dark brown with ruby highlights. Thin gray rim and swirls. No lace but shows some legs. Rich roasted peat mid-palate. Brown sugar and notes of cream. Long, spicy, peppery finish. This is the most complex of a fairly serious lineup of scotch ales tonight. Great stuff. Wish I could get it all the time. nbutler11 (40), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 23, 2008 Pours like an ale from the tap, but tastes almost creamy, like a stout, on the palate with the distinct taste of peat. Finishes with the bitterness of hops. Very unique beer. 1_2many (142), Ohio, USA Jul 22, 2008 Tap. Dark burgundy with an off-white head. I got some hops in the nose but balanced firmly malt. Full bodied with a lot of sweetness then a slight bitterness and alcohol. Not my favorite style but I liked it.
