Founders flagship beer. Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. This beer “ain’t fer the wee lads”

Bottle - This is a very hearty beer with loads of roasted malt flavor. The alcohol is present but a nice complement to the beer. I can’t put my finger on it, but something seems to be missing.

12 oz bottle shared from Total Wine & More - Gilbert, AZ. Lightly smoky, rich and malty with notes of caramel, toffee, earth and peat. Medium sweetness and light bitterness. Medium to full body with a nice balanced finish. Pretty easy to drink, but a nice one to sip on. Well done.

Hazy reddish brown in color with no head. Sweet, malt, alcohol aroma. Starts bold then fades nicely. Good sweetness and bitterness, taste a bit like a Belgian. The alcohol I smelt is also in the taste, hard to look past this. Good beer

Chestnut brown with a medium-fine, old-newspaper-colored head. Moderate rate of decay. Aroma of caramel, and deciduous forest after a rain, with a slight bit of alcohol. Toffee. Body is medium, low-medium carbonation with little burn. Somewhat syrupy due in part to lower carbonation.. Flavor is light caramel with a small, spicy hop bitterness to balance. Lingers but is not astringent in any way. Some mineral notes in there. Overall, a very nice scotch ale - drinkable and no smoke.

Buona!

Bottle from Pothole (€ 4,60 I think). BB 09/05/2015. Pours a strangely enchanting cloudy orange-brown with a small light tan head. Retains not for long; some lacing initially. Nose is thick caramelly sweetness with caramelised dark fruits, vanilla and chocolate, peat, slightly whiskey-like. Taste is similarily or slightly less complex with a more dominant malt character, and kind of smokey. Palate dry and malty, carbonation present but not obtrusive, body above medium. The high ABV only comes through hintingly and yet firmly when swallowing.

Overall a very good sipper, but I honestly expected it to be something more impressive - maybe should not have.

Bottle. Copper body, medium to small head. Aroma has simple toffee and syrup. Sweet caramelly taste that veers dangerously close to becoming cloying. Finish offers some light peat but even the alcohol is lost in the syrup. Sticky finish. Not bad but not very good either. For a highly rated brew this is not complex or interesting enough. BTW, the label looks amateurish - like someone’s kid applied a Photoshop emboss filter to a random drawing of Groundskeeper Willie in 1998.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass. Great, rich, malty aroma. No head on it at all. Alcohol is totally masked by carmel n scotch essence. My first scotch ale, thought it was great.

Dark ruby color with small head. Very rich chocolate malt aroma, boozy, dark fruits. Sweet rich chocolate taste, bitterness towards the finish. Low to middle carbonation, sticky mouthfeel. Very good!
