Aroma is pungent with resiny citrusy hops. touches of pine and grassiness, and mild bready, lightly sweet, cakey malts. Pours a deep orangey gold - cloudy with a medium-thin persistent white foam that leaves some lace on the glass. The flavor is a fantastic medley of resiny vinous hops and sweet honey and caramel malts - deep grapefruit hop tone throughout. There is a strong citrusy piney bitterness at midpalate with honey and toast. The finish is hoppy and balanced by malt sweetness. Mouthfeel is velvety and medium-full in body with bright carbonation that provides a gassy texture and tickle. Overall, lovely and delicious. A bit sweet at first but balance turns sublime. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 7, 2010 12 oz bottle. Poured a light golden with ample frothy head. Rich fruity hops aroma. Grapefruit, citrusy taste, a bit grassy in the finish. Balanced nicely with a slightly sweet malt taste. Another very good effort from Founders. BernieLomax (18), Pottstown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Feb 6, 2010 Pours a golden amber with a slight white head. Aroma is hoppy, but balanced and well crafted. One of, if not my favorite Double IPA. Excellent balance between hopps citrus and Alcohol. Pound for pound, I would put this beer up to any Double IPA and for the price it is easy to afford a case. The ABV is well hidden, that being said, the level of intoxication it produces it extremely obvious! I love Double Trouble and so will you. It is a must buy, when in the mood for a nice IIPA. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 6, 2010 love a beer that changes as it warms; simcoe or something grapefruity at the nose when cold, but it slowly evolves into something more grassy as it warms; nice DIPA but sort of wish it would pick a characteristic and stick to it alleycat (8), Indiana, USA does not count | 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Feb 6, 2010 Most balanced ’big’ beer I have tasted. Nice hop aroma, nice mouth feel, and a lasting bitterness that balances the malt sweetness perfectly. MaltDawg (982), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 5, 2010 Citrusy resiny hops over light caramel. Clear orange golden with a small white head. Citrusy floral and resiny hops all there in the flavor with just enough caramel sweetness to balance bitterness. Dry and quite bitter finish. mjs (1619), Helsinki, Finland

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 4, 2010 Bottle. Slightly orange pour, minimal carbonation and a very sweet citrus and honey aroma. Flavor is also strong soapy hops, lemon citrus, lemongrass and finished with a little too much heat. Very good, but I still like Hopslam better.
