An imperial IPA that was brewed to turn your world upside down. Hops have got you coming and going. Pungent aromatics up front paired with a malt balanced backbone and a smooth bitter finish. 86 IBUs.

(12oz bottle) Medium off-white head that leaves nice lacing atop clear light amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, pine, grapefruit, light peach. Taste is moderately sweet, intensely bitter pine/grapefruit, some alcohol. Soft medium-full body, some chewiness. Not bad, but more maltiness to counter some of the alcohol would really improve this one.

Bottle. Pour was dark golden/amber with a lasting head. Aroma was of grapefruit, light peach, and citrus. Malt was also prevalent in the flavors along with a complex bitterness. Very flavorful and pleasant brew. Another great creation from a great brewery.

12 Oz bottle... poured a hazy goldish, amber with a medium white head. Smelled strongly of citrus and a little bit of pine. The taste was very similar to the aroma (citrus/pine) but way more complex and had multiple different stages. Dry finish and not that heavy of a beer, but it was pretty damn good.

12oz bottle via Secret Santa Summer 2009-Pours a hazy amber with a huge off white head. Nose is citrus and pine. Taste is sweet malts, then grapefruit, pine, then grapefruit, pine, orange rind, grapefruit and pine. In that order!! Finish is dry, metallic aftertaste, carbonation is moderate. Body is light/medium.

It had good flavor and hints of citrus. Good aroma. But I cant handle that many IBUs. So it gets a 2.6 in my book.

UPDATED: JUL 15, 2009 Pours lighter than the Centennial. 2% avb stronger than their Centennial IPA but just as good. Smells oh so good with all the citrus family present in the nose and flavor. A bit of sweet biscuit also present, this and the higher avb were the only aspects I could detect that were different from the Centennial. Very sessionable but be wary of that high avb!

Pours a hazy honey blonde with a single finger of white head. The head thins very quickly and makes attempts at sheets of lacing. A strange nose, dominated by grapefruit, winning the battle over floral hops. Flavor is also a bit different than your average IPA, with lots of sugary sweetness, acidic citrus, and a lightly-roasted malt to balance out the hoppy finish. Mouthfeel is surprisingly thick and coats the tongue with a bitter piney finish.

Original review date 2/11/2009...Into my Portsmouth snifter. Good lemon honey color with a little carbonation and haze. Single-finger head leaves decent lacing. Nice grapefruit quality and scent here...just Centennial or something more? Very very bountiful with light malt butterscotch sweetness. Slightly carbonated alcohol burn. DAMN...thatís a straight-edged bitterness to it. Citrus taste emerges with warmth but itís more of a grapefruit rind than the pulp. Carbonation takes the citrus and the alcohol, íroids them both up to give a bit of a burn. Malt sweetness is in the back but it cuts the edge a bit. As mentioned, the carbonation harshness gives this shark its bite. That Imperial IPA high-gravity sweetness is a saving grace, albeit a mild one. Still, lighter finish than expected. Because this finishes up lightly it goes down pretty nicely. While thereís an alcohol burn it doesnít translate into huge residual sugar and weight to the palate so it doesnít come off as thick. Nicely done.

From a bottle poured amber with a small head. Nice strong hoppy flavor with a lasting finish.

Pours a bright golden orange with a modest, fine foam. Nose is HUGE of big citrus hops, among some of the most Iíve ever experienced. Mouthfeel is pretty thick, although shy of syrupy--any more so and I think it would be a bit much (but itís not). Big bodied, and big citrus flavor with hints of pine, spice, but tons of grapefruit. Very bitter finish in a really happy way. BIG double IPA but super drinkable as far as such a big double IPA can be. This is a really awesome beer. Go Michigan brew!
