An imperial IPA that was brewed to turn your world upside down. Hops have got you coming and going. Pungent aromatics up front paired with a malt balanced backbone and a smooth bitter finish. 86 IBUs.

12 oz bottle purchased from Chuck’s Liquor in Bowling Green. Poured a slightly hazy gold color with orange highlights, with a one finger white head that quickly dissipated and left a good amount of lacing. The aroma was citrus (mainly grapefruit). Not a whole lot of malt in the nose. The flavor was lacking a tad bit of malt balance, but was still nice with the piney finish. This is definately a good IIPA. It doesn’t quite reach the top tier, but still a solid brew.

12oz bottle. Golden orange color. Lots of bitter hoppiness. Pretty intense alcohol-wise, quite reminiscent of Belgian Tripel in some respects. Hopslam Belgified. A great beer.

Pretty light in color for this style. Aroma is mild with some hops. Not powerful at all. Taste is sweet malts, citrus and pine hops. Clean and smooth wit hnot much of a bite.

UPDATED: MAY 21, 2009 Pours mostly clear except for the suspended particles with some white head. Sweet pine aroma with a strong bitter taste. Alcohol and orange zest are present. Very well balanced.

Bottle. Pours a straw amber-yellow with a thin white head. Nice aroma of grapefruit hops, a bit of malty sweetness, and not much else. The flavor is definitely hop-dominated, bitter, with just a touch of malt for balance. Slightly bready finish. Prominent alcohol. Not bad by any means, but still a little bit disappointing - it seems to me like Founders is much better at making darker/sweeter beers.

12 oz bottle. After 3 straight months of drinking Hopslam and The Maharaja, there is almost no point in rating this beer. A golden orange pour with minuscule head leads to a somewhat slightly floral aroma packed with a boozie kick. An overly malty, somewhat bitter hop characteristic follows on the palate leaving more desired to the senses. While Pliny the elder is beautiful and bright as the sun, and the previous two beers mentioned above have a wonderfully grapefruity, citrusy, yet still malty flavor that masks the alcohol, the double trouble presents a somewhat bland, dim downed variation of what makes a great DIPA. Somewhat reminiscent of imagining banging that one really hot chick. Then when you do, you find out she was just a starfish. And she gave you herpes. Alright, not that disappointing. How about crabs?

Lively hops and strong alcohol kick. This one give Hopslam a run for its money. Founders has another winner!

Bottle from pimpp. Thanks Patrick!. Pours light amber with a medium offwhite head. Mild fruity hop bitterness. Easy to drink. Not sweet and malty, but not dry either. Nice balanced IPA. Very good.

Bottle from Sun Singer in Champaign. Pours a bright yellow hue. Assertive notes of lemon peel on the nose lead into abrasive hops with lemongrass, grapefruit, prickly pear, pineapple, and rosemary on the palate. Finish is palate cleansing. Its well done for its style, although not something I would reach for regularly.
