4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Wow, this beer is really good. I drink more 2 Hearted than any other beer, so I believe the folks at Bell’s know something about hops, and this beer just reconfirms it.
Appearance is a clear but slightly dull brass color with a fairly small amount of head which quickly fades to the side of the glass. Aroma is pineapple-y hops, dried fruit, and a touch of butterscotch. Flavor is more hops, which offer both fresh fruit and a nice dry hop bite. There is also some malt backing to this beer and a nice dry finish. In addition to being delicious, this beer is dangerously drinkable, particularly at 9.4% ABV.
As time goes by and all the Double Trouble sitting on the shelf goes from being days to weeks old, I suspect some of the appeal of this beer will temper, but right now it is really good.
I bought this at the Blacklick Wine & Spirits in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Taste 2/9 Bottle. Looks: Cloudy golden body with a thin white top. Aroma: Tons of floral and citrus hops. There is a hint of sweetness from the malt. Taste: Nice even balancing of the hops. Both the high volumes of citrus and floral keep the beer from being too astringent or soapy. A think a addition of a small amount of more malt might round it out more. Really nice beer.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JAN 31, 2012 1/31/12: Draught at TND: Aroma of hops, hop oil, grapefruit, tropical fruit, peach, and citrus. Poured amber in color with a small, white head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer. Hazy. Not sparkling. Excellent lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet and heavily bitter. Tastes of hops, pine, resin, light tropical fruit, light hop oil, and slight malt. Medium body. Oily, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Heavily bitter, hop, tropical fruit, pine, resin, finish is dry. 9.4%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Slightly hazy orange with a white head. Nose of grapefruit and pine. Taste of grapefruit rind bitterness, pine tar, and sweet malts, with the bitterness growing and lingering in a long bitter finish. The sweetness actually provides some balance. A very drinkable beer, either by itself if you love PNW hops, or with a truly fiery chili, since the sweetness and the hops will stand up to all the chipotles you care to throw at it. Better than a HopSlam, close to a 90 minute or a Stone Ruination or a Victory Hop Wallop.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours a clear sunset yellow with minimal head that quickly diminishes to a film. Aroma is faint apricot and grapefruit with a touch of honey sweetness in the background. There’s nothing subtle about the taste, however. It’s a hop bomb with TONS of upfront grapefruit, traces of apricot and a bready malt finish. Lingering bitterness. Viscous mouthfeel with little carbonation. I enjoyed it more on draft, but was in no condition to rate it at the time. Uh, I mean I forgot my pen. (Hopslam gets the side-by-side victory, BTW.)

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 11, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a bright orange syrup with a very minimal white head that recedes to a few bubbles. A couple bubbles slowly meander up to the top of the brew. Looks thick. Nose is faint, not much there suprisingly. Almost smells sticky and sugary. Palate is syrup and thickness, lots of film and a sticky mouth. Flavor is fresh hops with alot of bread and caramel. Nice and bitter. Not overwhelmingly hoppy, which I was kinda hoping for, but it was solid. Need to give it a second go round for sure.
Second bottle: Not sure what was up with the first attempt. Second bottle poured a bright orange color with a bright white head and lots of fizzy bubbles that raced in an arc to the top. Nose was grapefruit, pine, fresh citrus notes. Palate was crisp and refreshing. Flavors of fresh hops, citrus, pine and sunshine. Kinda got stinky towards the bottom of the glass? not sure what thats about. Anyway, ill bump my rating up slightly for this better sample.
