This one is kind of hard to place. Four a double IPA, it really isn’t all that hoppy. There’s no harshness, no resinous hop aroma or flavor, no sticky malt sweetness. Instead, this smells, tastes, and drinks like a moderately hoppy IPA. The malt is full enough to support the hops, but it’s actually a little on the dry side. The hops are black pepper and sweet orange, not the normal huge pine or grapefruit. The bitterness is firm, but not harsh or aggressive. This is just too easy drinking for the style, but I really dig the beer.

Cavie (3879) - Fort Worth, Texas, USA - MAR 4, 2009
Foggy yellow/orange pour with a light head that dissipates quickly. Very hoppy aroma with several different types of hops apparent on the nose. Mouthfeel is slightly grainy with an almost filmy feel. Hops are present all throughout the drink and is somewhat spicy. The finish is not as bitter as one would expect, nor as dry. As far as Impy IPAs go, this isn’t bad.

12oz bottle. Pours a crystal clear deep golden color. Head was 2 fingers thick and off white in color. Nose of pine cones and maple syrup. Flavor is Full of bitter hops, sweet malts and a touch of booze. A great IIPA from Founders.

Pours clear and crisp perfect gold with a creamy 1 finger white head. Aroma is citrus and pine, melon, pineapple, fruit punch Jolly Rancher, a decent amount of caramel, apple, and some burnt sugar. Flavor is caramel, citrus hops, honey, grapefruit, strong grassy hops, some melon and fruit notes. Finish is really grapefruit juicy with a nice clean slightly bitter fade. Palate is medium and slick with a dry but slightly sticky finish.

Bottle acquired via the generosity of Sparky27...THANKS ERIC!!! Another fantastic offering from Founders...definitely one of the better breweries out there!!! White meringue head with stiff peaks sits atop a vibrant brass body that leaves significant lacing. Freshly cut evergreen, juicy pink grapefruit, lemongrass, and caramel in the nose. Incredibly balanced, pungent, and sticky. Clean and refreshing.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy amber gold, with only a tad bit of white suds gathering at the top. Aroma: My first thoughts were "Bell’s Hopslam", which is a good thing in my book. Sugary scents of mandarin orange and tangerine are all I can smell. Taste: Sweet malts and bitter, piny hops at first. After that first hit of sweet and bitter, I get a mouthful of grapefruit, rock candy sugar and bitterness lining my inner cheeks. The flavors don’t linger as long as I would like it, which invites the next sip. Mouthfeel: Rather thin for an Imperial IPA, but the viscosity is on par for an aggressive IPA. Overall: Great aroma, great taste, a little thin on the mouthfeel, great ABV. This is a great beer, even if it is on the thin side.

Slightly golden with a fluffy white head. Real fresh, crisp hop aroma with a nice grapefruit sweetness. Malty sweetness on the tongue and really well-hidden alcohol. Excellent beer!

Pours light copper with a large rocky white head. Strong, slightly sweet/herbaceous aroma of pine, basil, mint, and caramel. Flavor is grassy upfront, a bit herbal, slightly sweet mid-palate, and zesty/bitter towards the finish. Palate is medium bodied and bitter-sweet, with a somewhat velvety mouth feel. .Fairly straight-forward DIPA, and very well-balanced

Great hoopy floral aroma hits your senses right as you open the bottle. Golden yellow pour with a lasting white head. A little sweet, you can definately taste hops, but nothing overbearing, a well balanced beer. The alcohol isn’t noticeable. Lacing appears on the glass from top to bottom. Very excellant beer. Have yet to meet a bad Founders. Another reason to go to Michagan this Summer.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma of sweet citrus and grapefruit hops. Flavor is similarly citrus-y with some grassy hops initially and a orange zest kick in the finish. A very nice double IPA, not heavy or syrupy in the slightest. Well constructed. 8/4/9/4/16 (4.1/5)
