Bottle. Pours a clear sunset yellow with minimal head that quickly diminishes to a film. Aroma is faint apricot and grapefruit with a touch of honey sweetness in the background. There’s nothing subtle about the taste, however. It’s a hop bomb with TONS of upfront grapefruit, traces of apricot and a bready malt finish. Lingering bitterness. Viscous mouthfeel with little carbonation. I enjoyed it more on draft, but was in no condition to rate it at the time. Uh, I mean I forgot my pen. (Hopslam gets the side-by-side victory, BTW.)

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a bright orange syrup with a very minimal white head that recedes to a few bubbles. A couple bubbles slowly meander up to the top of the brew. Looks thick. Nose is faint, not much there suprisingly. Almost smells sticky and sugary. Palate is syrup and thickness, lots of film and a sticky mouth. Flavor is fresh hops with alot of bread and caramel. Nice and bitter. Not overwhelmingly hoppy, which I was kinda hoping for, but it was solid. Need to give it a second go round for sure. Second bottle: Not sure what was up with the first attempt. Second bottle poured a bright orange color with a bright white head and lots of fizzy bubbles that raced in an arc to the top. Nose was grapefruit, pine, fresh citrus notes. Palate was crisp and refreshing. Flavors of fresh hops, citrus, pine and sunshine. Kinda got stinky towards the bottom of the glass? not sure what thats about. Anyway, ill bump my rating up slightly for this better sample.

Tap at Capones pours a lightly hazy golden orange with a medium foamy white head that left tons of lacing. Aroma of pine, grapefruit and floral notes. Kind of bready malt and light caramel. Hop bomb for sure. Flavor of tons of grapefruit, floral, bready malt, apricot, tons of hop flavor and bitterness.

If you have not tasted it, you must, it is like drinking fresh squeezed grapefruit juice the morning after a three-way with Kate Winslet and Kate Beckinsale.

12 oz bottle, poured into a tulip glass. Color is pale orange, a bit cloudy but semi-translucent. Thin ring of white foam, leaving light lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, hops, and pine. Taste is hoppy, with citrus (lemon and grapefruit) and pine. A bit of sweet malt, but not as much as Hopslam. Mild carbonation, smooth and quenching. A very nice DIPA, I find it to be a bit more drinkable than Hopslam. Another great beer from Founders, they’re the model of consistency!

Thin head of white bubbles. Strong lemon aroma with lots of succulent and resinous hops. And a bit of cat urine. As is warms a bit of mild cheddar cheese peeps it head out. Color is a hazy medium golden orange. Strong roasty bitterness in the flavor. Grapefruit, roasted red peanut skins, more lemon and lots of resinous hops. Noticable alcohol presence but extremly drinkable and goes down way too easy. Finishes sprucy bitter and lingering grainyness. A damn good IIPA. I might have to make this a regular in my house.

12oz bottle thanks to the blaw and slaw (melissa and josh)..... pours a semi-transparent medium apple brown pour with a soapy white head.... aroma was abound with citrus and flowery hop notes.... flavors were much along the same profile. sharp citrus notes with a moderate malt profile. botter citrus peel in the finish. def a good match between this and hopslam but i think i prefer the bells just a point more. still very good.

Bottle from Binny’s Beverage Depot, Orland Park, Illinois: The color surprized me, a bright yellow body capped by a respectable head. Lots of lace. The aroma was pungent and had an earthy bitterness - sure sign of many a hop. With time, I caught some pine, yellow grapefruit, citrus zest, and a touch of tangy tropical fruit. A sweetness that I imagine came from the malt trickled out from time to time. There’s some serious up front bitterness in the flavor, a splash of pale malt sweetness in the middle, and then a surge of the hop tastes, reflective from the nose, that lasted through the finish. Very nice and well appreciated by this unrepentant hop-head.

Pours a transparent golden-orange with a small soapy white head. The aroma was of pine nose with a little resin and a heavy dose of exoticism (mango, guava, grapefruit, and orange) from the heavenly hop side. The flavour was strong with an upfront pine bite, followed by subtle grapefruit and strong pineapple finish. The pineapple lends a sweeter brew as a result. The alcohol is very well hidden. Overall,, exceptional beer!
