3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy golden colour. Medium head when poured hard. Some nice pineapple and grapefruit in the aroma. Thereís also some caramel in there, smells just like gruyere actually! This beer would probably go so well together with some gruyere.. Should have bought some earlier today.
Taste is sweet and very bitter. Great double IPA even though my bottle wasnít very fresh.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Transparent, creamy orange. Floral mist, aerosol alcohol, faint cantaloupe and lychee in a sometimes soft, sometimes pushy aroma. Cottony with sugars and citrus pith; clementine, citrus tree leaves, fresh air. Intoxicating possibilities are lacquered and stagnated with alcohol.
Elderflower and milky fresh floral sweetness. Steady, buried biscuit malt foundation. Citrus oils wet and viscous with the gooey cotton candy of the alcohol effect. The palate is designed for dryness but doesnít maintain it, although the low level carbonation helps to air out the sodden, heavy texture.
Filtered out finish with bold faced alcohol and resin; the familiar, sticky aerosol pine sap combo the style has moved beyond. A few years ago this would have been a high water mark in the style, but there are too many texturally complex, hop-driven but balanced and clean examples out there now; Founders will undoubtedly contribute just such an example eventually, but this isnít it.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle into 12 oz tall tulip. Clear amber with one-finger white head. Aroma pine, subtle malt, grain, citrus. Grassy pine, bitter, orange/lemon, malt. Quite bitter but not ridiculous; balanced enough. 100th percentile is sucking the Founders teet (sorry), but this this very solid.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Founders Double Trouble IPA has a thin, off-white head, a mostly clear, brilliant, orange-gold, bubbly apppearance, and some light lacing left behind. The aroma is of strong, but not overwhelming, hop resin and white bread. Taste is of that, with a strong, but still, not overwhelming, hop bitterness to back it up. Mouthfeel is medium, and Founders Double Trouble IPA finishes dry and easily drinkable, even with the high abv. RJT

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a slightly hazy golden amber with a very short head giving way immediately to a thin skim and no lacing. Nose is pine resin, mango, pineapple, citrus, light malt. Taste is pine resin and orange zest on light biscuity malt, giving way quickly to medium bitter. Medium bodied with low sustained carbonation and a pleasant warming.
Very nice DIPA, with a pretty sneaky ABV apparent only as a gradual warming on the finish. Pleasant fruity and piney hops with just enough malt to balance it out while maintaining a nicely bitter finish. I like this a lot, even accounting for the fact that DIPAís tend to be among my favourites.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft. Pours murky orange with thin white head that lingers. Dank hoppy aroma over mild carbonation. Not as boozy as you might expect given 9.4 abv. Nice flavor but limited complexity. Doesn't compare with the top dipa options out there.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Ah man... we were so excited for this beer, but it didnít really perform to othersí comments and rankings. Perhaps an old 12 oz bottle? Picked it up at the Winn Dixie liquor store. No date so couldnít be sure. Poured a nice orangey-golden hue with a short retained bright white head. Pervasive carbonation. Aroma is quite malt forward, with little hop notes to be found. Taste is mostly that of malt up front, with subtle hints of orange and caramel. The hops come in hard and fast on the back end. No real balance to the malt though. They donít seem integrated or harmonized. No major flaws, but the imbalance of the malt and hop is a bit of a downer. Will look for it on draft to see if it is the same experience.

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours pale yellow gold, brief white head. Beautiful herbal, spicy, citrus aroma. Flavor starts gentle and builds a great malt hop blend. The hops are dominant and remarkably clear and subtly complex. Palate is clean but rich with a remarkably long hop finish. Overall, this is the benchmark Double IPA. Years ago, this is the beer that made me reconsider my aversion to hoppy beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Yeah this is a good one. Pours a vibrant orange. Aromas are pungent hops, tropical fruit notes, and corn syrup. Flavors are fruity and sweet.. Tropical fruit notes, caramel, a nice balanced hop finish with no alcohol. Whoa.. Watch out for this one.
