4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Courtesy of Daknole. Big, rich aromas of hazelnut, wood, vanilla. Flavors follow similarly- lots of creamy nuttiness, vanilla, sweet malts. Creamy texture. Hard to believe this isnít barrel-aged. Alcohol not even detectable. So good- wish I couldíve had more, but grateful for the taster! Does Founders make anything bad??

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Shared by Daknole. Nice brown pour with a tan head. Aroma is dead on with hazelnut coffee ever present. Taste is there too and it is medium bodied and lovely. Damn is this good!

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours dark brown with a reddish tint and a thin tan head. Very good taste....creamy. Overall it is a fine brew. I may not revisit it though.

2.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Poured into a pint glass. Pours a ruby-tinted, transparent, milk-chocolate brown. Big hazelnut notes, sugar cookies, light ethanol. Crisp mouth with a decent amount of carbonation. Whoah! Holy cheap hazelnut creamer, Batman! Yowzas. This is sickeningly sweet. Whatever else characteristics I expected are all but drowned out. I canít get past the hazelnut on this one. I knew going into this, that that was the main player with this beer, but letís learn some subtlety, yeah? I need another beer to wash this flavor out. I wanted to try this since it came out, but this is not pleasant. The worst beer I have had from Founders. Pass.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle pours a pretty red almost brown with a thin tan head. Scent is coffee, chocolate and nuts. Taste is dark bitter chocolate, coffee and nuts. Amazing beer!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
750ml bottle via trade. Pours mahogany brown with a thick light tan head. Aroma of hazelnuts extract, coffee, biscuit dough and alcohol. Flavor is lots of nuts and rich, doughy malt with some smooth coffee and a warming alcohol presence. Medium body with an soft, oily mouth feel. This is a really good beer, but Iím a sucker for hazelnut coffee. Very well done.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at BCTC. No appearance notes on this. Consumed from the bottle. Smells like toffee and hazelnut. Chocolate and sugars. Tastes like maple syrup and espresso beans. Up front darker malts and coffee and cream.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a tulip.
Frangelic Mountain Brown pours a full brown color with ruby edges and a small tan tap that recedes to a cap around the edge.
Unfortunately, the aroma gives me a very synthetic hazelnut aroma above light coffee notes, caramel malts, and some cocoa.
The flavor is a bit better, but there is still a synthetic hazelnut feel. The hazelnut flavor goes on forever. A light cocoa powder sweetness starts out the sip, with bready malts, a bit of caramel, hazelnuts and coffee bringing up the rear. I am left with an oily, synthetic hazelnut flavor.
The body is on the fuller side of medium, with a creamy carbonation and an overall oily feel.
I expect better than synthetic flavors from Founders.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
tap at Brewhaven festival - Pours nearly clear dark amber with a very toasty caramel aroma. The flavor is really rich with sweet toasted caramel malt and a complementary nutty character. Excellent beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I love brown ales and I love coffee so Iím quite excited to try this one. Poured into a snifter. Big thanks to JoeFuzz for this.
5.0 A: Deep mahogany brown color. Not as brown as most browns. Two fingers of creamy tan head. Retention is very good given the ABV and glass covering lacing is left.
4.0 S: The hazelnut sure as fuck comes through. It smells great, but is not wholely natural. Actually, it smells like hazelnut coffee from a gas station, which isnít bad, but isnít world class either. Toastiness underneath and enough sweetness to balance. The score I give is a reconciliation between how much I enjoy the nose (4.5) and how much I respect the artificial nature of it (3.5).
4.0 T: Taste is much like the nose in that it tastes like a cold, carbonated hazelnut coffee from the Sheetz down the street. Toastiness and enough sweetness to give the impression of having some half & half in it. Again, I like it, but I donít think I can respect it.
4.0 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Superbly smooth with a light creaminess. The body fully works for this beer.
4.0 D: I bought some nut extracts to use in some homebrew, but then went out to buy actual nuts after my test runs had an artificial taste and smell to it. However, artificial isnít synonymous with bad. Sure, I donít respect the artificial additions, but they can work well. This is an example in which they do work well.
