3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber. Deep amber/brown body. Fizzy beige head, rapidly diminishing. Big aroma of hazelnut, toasted grain, raisin and coffee. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Strong hazelnut taste with notes of cream soda, vanilla, coffee. Interesting how much like hazelnut java this tastes. Enjoyable, but you’ve got to really like hazelnut to enjoy this beer.

Transfer from BA review on 5-8-14-
Poured from bottle into a snifter
Appearance – The beer pours murky brown color with a one finger head of cream foam. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a lighter level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a caramel and coffee smell with some hints of a chocolate mixed within. Along with these aromas are some smells of hazelnut as well as a little bit of a more earthy hop aroma. A little bit of toffee and a touch of breadiness are there as well, with the overall aroma, being a somewhat weak, oddly mixed, and not quite balanced smell.
Taste – A rather strong hazelnut coffee flavor is present right from the start, remaining constant throughout the taste and creating a base for the flavors of the brew. There is also a very sweet caramel and chocolate flavor at the start. As the taste advances the sweetness persists, only with it transitioning, as a bit of the caramel moves toward a more a toffee and molasses like flavor and with the chocolate gaining some flavors of vanilla enhancing the sweetness. Toward the very end some light earthy and floral hop flavors, as well as a light level of booziness comes to the tongue leaving a sweet, lightly boozy, hazelnut coffee flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is thick and creamy with a carbonation level that is on the average side. Both are quite nice for the style as they really meld well the hazelnut coffee and sweeter flavors of the brew nicer and make for a decently easy drinker.
Overall – A nice imperial porter that isn’t trying to mimic a stout and take tons of roast, but instead melds well chocolate flavors with a nice hazelnut coffee flavor to create a very pleasant smooth sipper with a good level of coffee, chocolate, and sweet.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
"Trade from grummet - this strong brown manages a thick but drinkable 9% while still giving off the appearance of a nice normal but brown, with mahogany highlights. The aroma is killer - complex & enjoyable...subtle roasted malts, coffee, and a fresh hazelnut smell that I absolutely loved. The feel was almost equally as awesome, full and thick, though covering the abv expertly while also being sweet but not cloying. If there is a fault in this beer, it’s that the flavor falls short of the aroma. While nothing was subtle in the nose, it was balanced and natural. The flavor, while delicious, was in your face hazelnut flavored coffee... Still a beer I’d return to often if it were more easily available. Thanks for the trade Greg."

Backlog rating on 8-04-2012 at Brew Haven (New Haven, IN) This draft beer has a small tan head with a lengthy retention, transparent amber body, very little carbonation observed, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is roasted coffee and nutty. The flavor is sweet, roasted coffee and nutty. The mouthfeel is smooth and this beer is light-medium bodied. This beer is very quaffable given the ABV and is a beer worth trying and a beer I would drink again.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at Norey’s Newport, RI. Dark brown. Caramel and nutty aromas. The taste follows with intense hazelnut, peanuts, and some very light coffee notes. Not exactly chocolate but, more of a brownie thing going on too. Silky mouthfeel, hidden alcohol. Perfectly balanced, excellent brown ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer stunned me. Sat on this for a year after I traded for it. Kind of forgot I had it as it was in the back of my beer cabinet. I didn’t have high hopes going in but I was floored by how good this was. Nutella caramel brownie with a drying bitter cocoa finish. It is 100° in San Antonio right now but this beer makes it feel like it’s 65 in the smoky mountains. Best brown ale I have ever had.

Poured from a bomber aged 2 years into a Founders pint glass brown with a touch of auburn hue. Plenty of tan head that laced down the glass nicely.
Aroma is incredible hazelnut sweetness some coffee
Flavor of hazelnut brownie comes first to mind. Nutty molasses are balanced here with the coffee. A seriously better than expected brew I happily returned to after 2 years.

750ml brown bottle - bottleshare at Ferris’. Brown pour, hazy. Tan ring of head. Aroma has lots of nuts, seemed more peanut than hazelnut ... peanut buttery. Taste has chocolate and nuts. Some bitterness in the end, choolate and nut finish. Really liked this.
