Dark amber colored pour with an off-white head. Toffee and dark fruit notes with some roasted malt, chocolate, and leather. Somewhat watery, a bit of toasted nuts, and some toast. Sort of a bland, watery flavor. Toffee and toasted malt sweetness, some chocolate, cocoa powder, and a hint of roast. A weird leathery quality, hints of dark fruit, and some toasted nuts. A rare miss from Founders.

22 oz. bottle. Dark brown pour with a minimum head. Aroma of rich brown malts, mild oatmeal, slight tobacco and leathery notes. Smells nice. Flavor is dry and leathery. Lots of brown malts, rye bread, some crackers. Lots of dark bread. Quite nice. Nice, full mouthfeel, good, complementary carbonation. Finishes dry and leathery. Nice beer.

Pours dark with a thin white head. Aroma of malt and a hint of sweetness. Taste is malt with some earthy notes and a wood like off bitter with hints of smoke. Some lacing on the glass. Nothing special stands out with this offering from Founders. OK at best.

DalzAle (1984) - Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA - NOV 28, 2012
Bottle thanks to woodchopper on BA! Dirty brown pour, medium light carbonation and a slightly roasty nose. Flavor is medium malt, light cocoa a little bit of hops and metallic flavors. Not a bad beer, I’d buy it if it were priced right (under $8/ 6 pack)

750ml pour to pint glass. Appearance and some of the taste is like a brown ale, but much more on the palate: malt, syrup, nut and more . . . all roasted together. A very decent, full-bodied beer.

22oz bottle GRR 11/20/12 Pours dark brown with dark amber hues. Aroma of roasted malt, tobacco, dried fruits, and chocolate. Taste of the same with some toffee and caramel. This medium to full bodied brew is pretty darn tasty.

A very nice beer, hard to pin down because it is pretty nuanced. Brownish red appearance, fresh roasted aroma, and a bit of tobacco and coffee in the finish.
