Dark amber colored pour with an off-white head. Toffee and dark fruit notes with some roasted malt, chocolate, and leather. Somewhat watery, a bit of toasted nuts, and some toast. Sort of a bland, watery flavor. Toffee and toasted malt sweetness, some chocolate, cocoa powder, and a hint of roast. A weird leathery quality, hints of dark fruit, and some toasted nuts. A rare miss from Founders.

750mL thanks to the DC crew. Pours a clear, deep red. Tan foam with good, rocky retention and webby lacing. Nose is sticky, Twizzlers, hazelnut, pepper, coffee. Taste is bitter coffee, peppercorn, chili pepper heat. Palate is thinner, tangy, sharp bitter chocolate and coffee. Very interesting and enjoyable. I guess a coffee brown ale. Nice.

Grainy, bready, toasted specialty malts. Nice yeast strain. The beer is a bit thin and sterile overall though.

Bottle:   Darker brown, moderate frothy beige like head, fairly nice lacing.   Malty/biscuity nose, somewhat sweet, little hop to be seen.   Faint cocoa as well.   Malty tongue, definite biscuit, little hop presense, soft cocoa or chocolate notes.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   A bit more hop on the finish.   Malty, soft chocolate malts, like a very nice Brown Ale.   Clean, enjoyable, and tasty.

22oz bottle pours a clear brown with some hazy, white head. Nose is a straight forward brown ale, brown sugar, caramel, crackers, bread. Flavor is sweet, sugar, brown sugar, nutty, a little apple. Medium bodied, sweet finish.

Bottle shared by Drew. Thanks! Pours a deep brown with reddish hints and a tan head. Nose is big bourbon and char. Some caramel and toast as well. Minimal hop aromatics, dominated by the char. On tasting, clean, touch of booze. Caramel and toast. Pretty solid as far as stock ales go. Should probably be reclassed as an old ale. Balanced.

22 oz. bottle. Dark brown pour with a minimum head. Aroma of rich brown malts, mild oatmeal, slight tobacco and leathery notes. Smells nice. Flavor is dry and leathery. Lots of brown malts, rye bread, some crackers. Lots of dark bread. Quite nice. Nice, full mouthfeel, good, complementary carbonation. Finishes dry and leathery. Nice beer.

750ml bottle from the brewpub in Grand Rapids, MI. Pours a glowing, clear, deep brown body with a slight reddish hue. Inch thick, creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is clean, lightly sweetened malts with a light caramel and a dry, light roast and toastiness. A bit of a nutty graininess with touches of toffee, licorice, earth, and a few floral fruits. Flavor is similar. Nutty, lightly sweetened and grainy malts with touches of caramels and a dry roastiness throughout. Light licorice, floral fruits, and earth notes as this finishes dry with some leathery tobacco to the roasts, but clean with a balanced, lightly sweetened malt backing. Medium-light bitterness before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Very soft and smooth, medium body with a soft, moderate carbonation. Love the palate on this. Overall, a really complex and very enjoyable beer. Ultra smooth with a nice, soft feel to the body, but not sweet at all. A good amount of roasts, but very well balanced with some lightly sweetened, nutty and grainy malts, licorice, and light floral notes. Great beer.

22oz bottle GRR 11/20/12 Pours dark brown with dark amber hues. Aroma of roasted malt, tobacco, dried fruits, and chocolate. Taste of the same with some toffee and caramel. This medium to full bodied brew is pretty darn tasty.
