Cloudy straw color with thick white soapy head. Lacing hugs the glass. Aroma of hops, grapefruit and some pine. Wet hops finish with grapefruit, pine and flowers on the palate. Impressive beer! The best part of the Giants-’Skins game.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Moderate roasted smell for the malt, heavy grapefruit, pine and flowers for the hops, light soap for the yeast with notes of pepper and wood. Head is large, frothy, slightly off-white with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is hazy amber. Flavor starts lightly acidic and finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery and has a lively carbonation. Just lacking a little sweetness, this is exactly what an IPA is supposed to smell, taste, look and feel like.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a hazy gold, with large, numerous floaties - a lot of citrusy, San Diego style hop potency in the nose, with a fairly sweet malt backbone, spruce-like character - the flavor is mostly resinous hops, and not much else - don’t get me wrong, the hops are leafy, herbal, spicy, tasty as hell - however, without enough malt to back them, the beer feels like it lacks depth - lemongrass, orange zest and a tiny bit of tartness on the back end - quite one-dimensional, and hardly worth the price.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap, Thirsty Monk, Asheville. Cloudy orangey gold with a thin white head. Very spicy, citrusy piney aroma - hop dominated, as one might expect. Very crisp. Flowery hops dominate - very fresh and delicious. Dangerously drinkable. Uncomplicated, but really nice and tasty.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Pours a slightly hazy effervescent golden with creamy dense white head that laces. Crisp zesty hop aroma- bright lemon peel and pepper notes (Centennial?) There’s a very mild sweet back implicit of pale malt as well as dry bread crust. Fluffy carbonation. Has a great hop presence in the flavor. Crisp zesty citrus. Lemony with a touch of bread crust malt in the back remaining dry throughout. Has a very brief sweeter fruit suggestion of peach along with a continued peppery moderate bitter finish. Very well hopped and highly drinkable. Crisp.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pour is unique. The beer is a cloudy dirty gold color with a BIG head of light soapy bubbles that becomes a soapy lacing. There are stringy things visible in the glass when held up to light. Interesting. Aroma is tart hop with grapefruit and pine. There is some unexpected sweet orange notes. Very nice! Flavor is full of tart hop. It is very citrusy with grapefruit and lemon. Some grass and sweetness. Mildly bitter from the hops. This is a truly refreshing hop based ale that that offers some unique flavor combinations. It is a pleasant mix of tart and sweet with plenty of citrus. Caramel isn’t notes but the beer draws sweetness from the fruit flavors. Enjoyable.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very hazy yellow orange pour. Some sediment floating inside. Thick white head on top and lots of bubbles. Fresh hop aroma with lots of pine and citrus. Earthy and effervescent. Very bitter flavor dominated by piny hops. Lots of citrus fruit. Crisp and refreshing, though a bit too carbonated.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JAN 22, 2009 Aroma of piney-citrus hops balanced by yeast. Amber-orange pour with a big frothy white head, leaving a nice lace. Flavor is coniferous hops and savory yeast, with light sour fruity elements, citrus, pineapple mango, caramel malts. Very quaffable, lively carbonation, nicely chalky on the finish. On multiple occasions, I can simply say this is my favorite IPA.
