4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled at the brewery in the summer of 09. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, roast, malt, rich bourbon. The roasted malts and bourbon become strong as it warms. Dark black in appearance with a tan head that’s thinly bubbled. Creamy roast flavors with bourbon, chocolate, and bitter roast. Solid stuff.

tiny layer of brown head, a swirl brings a delayed layer to the surface. aroma is pretty much pure bourbon, some slight roast and peat notes. the taste is slightly more balanced, though still a boubon bomb, which i love. this one is good, i like the heat and bourbon on it myself.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Growler. Thick black with a tiny tan head, down to tiny ring. Loads of bourbon and wood in the nose, followed by anise and dark chocolate, light roast behind. Flavor is much the same, moderate amount of spicy alcohol heat towards the semi-dry finish, bitterness at a 3-4. Big full body with light carbonation. A little too boozy and hot, but good.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Growler sample at the Founders tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 2/11/10. Many thanks to John for bringing this from the beer dinner the night before. Pours black with a thin light brown head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and licorice. Boozy vanilla flavor up front, quickly easing into chocolate ice cream and a roasty, almost charred finish. My kind of beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap @ Founders. Black pour, thin tan head. Alcohol, roast, chocolate on the aroma. Quite smooth for the strength, whiskey is forward but doesn’t overwhelm too much, lets some roast flavors through. Very nice.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On draft at Founders. Black with just a little tan head. Aroma of bourbon and flavor is much of the same. Bourbon takes over leaving the stout in the background. Good.

this is what everyone who has been rating the Founders Bourbon Imperial Stout (2009 ratings) has been rating..the one named Founders Bourbon Imperial Stout was actually just called Founders Bourbon Stout and was not aged in barrels like this beer...much, much diff..this is an amazing beer, one of the best i have had..tap at founders..almost black wiht minimal chesnut brown head..oak/bourbon, rich chocolate, molasses, cream and caramel in the nose. flavor captures what makes an imperial unique and adds the wonderful bourbon and vanilla backbone without dominating the fig and mollasses impy touch..hot hop finish..outstanding
