COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A fine companion to end a meal or relax in front of the hearth with, this robust ale will cellar well for years. Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley this stout is extremely smooth, complex and rich in body. We recommend serving at cellar temperature. Sit back and enjoy its richness and complexity, youíre about to drink the ultimate winter warmer.

UPDATED: OCT 17, 2011 Pours black with a finger of fine brown head in my snifter, hints of chocolate escape the predominantly roasted malt and alcohol aroma. The flavor mimics the scents, with a chalky bitterness and lingering dark roasted coffee notes. The body is medium with a sticky texture, soft carbonation, and long astringently bitter finish. I was hoping for more from this imperial stout, so Iíll age my remaining bottles with hopes of more refinement next fall. 10/15/2011 Re-rate: Popped the top on one of my cellared bottles, and my patience was rewarded. None of the nasty bitterness or astringency from a fresher tasting was present, it seems this stout takes rather well to a rest. Assuming I am able to grab a four pack in January, I may put them in the back of the cellar until next fall.

A plain and simple wonderful stout. Super toasty with a ton of malty character. pitch black with a dark brown head. Really solid. Ends dry with a ting of sweetness. Aroma is wet grains that are roasted. A+ brew. Founders is the Shiiiit.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured a deep, dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma was of roasted malts, a little coffee, and a little chocolate. Flavor was more of the same with a touch of smokiness thrown in. Very good. Get in my belly!!

UPDATED: APR 26, 2014 Bottle in KC. This Imperial Stout pours a very deep black appearance with a dark brown head and good lacing. Super rich, dark chocolate, roasty malty, light espresso, somewhat piney aroma with a touch of vanilla. Thereís a very rich, dark chocolate malty flavor along with some anise, some vanilla, earthy/lightly piney hoppy flavor with roasty, dark chocolate finish that isnít all that sweet. Beautifully balanced where you get a ton of the dark chocolate and roasty malts but isnít that overly hoppy. One of my all-time favorites.

12 oz bottle: Pours pitch black with a thin tan head. I let this beer warm up to room temp/slightly cooler. Nice roasted notes in the aroma with hints of coffee licorice and slight bitter cocoa. Nice medium to full mouth feel that isnít too light or too chewy. Really smooth and silky mouth feel but not too much so like an oatmeal stout. Apparent roasted notes up front that give way to a somewhat strong coffee taste which finished bitter coffee/cocoa. This is a very well balanced, great bodied imperial stout. The 10% ABV is pretty well hidden. If you like big stouts, coffee stouts, or something a bit more complex, definitely check out this beer. Overall: (A)

12oz bottle, poured into pint glass with a great frothy head, roasty, almost smoky and ash taste with this one, A bit weak in the middle but a nice Imperial from Founders.

On tap. Very dark, near-black pour with a thick brown head. Tremendous roasty aroma. Plenty of standard coffee and chocolate notes, along with the burnt aroma of dark malts. Taste is a biting dark roast, which manages to avoid being bitter. Light chocolate notes. Some booziness as it warms. Hop profile is noticeable, but probably not significant enough to call this a "balanced" beer. Palate is rich and full. Great brew, perhaps swaying towards the burnt toast end of the spectrum. I prefer my impy stouts sweeter and less roasty.

Poured a black color with generous head. Lots of roated malts and coffee aroma. Some cocoa smell. Taste is lite bitter and lite sweetness. Dont be fooled by the liteness, this is like a meal. Kind of like the Breakfast stout. Thick and chewy. Full body. Long finish. Soft carbonation. Enjoyed it.
