COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A fine companion to end a meal or relax in front of the hearth with, this robust ale will cellar well for years. Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley this stout is extremely smooth, complex and rich in body. We recommend serving at cellar temperature. Sit back and enjoy its richness and complexity, you’re about to drink the ultimate winter warmer.

Big thanks to Gillard for this. Pours very dark brown with amber edges and tiny tan head. The aroma is dark roasted malts, a dash of coffee, molasses and burnt malts. The taste is much the same with roasty malts slowly turning burnt with chocolate, molasses and some more burnt malts in tow. I’m told there are hops in this beer somewhere. I just don’t smell or taste any. I do get a modest roasted malt astringency balancing out the mouth feel into the finish. Yummy stuff.

Pitch b;ack pour into a snifter. Sweet aroma and roasted malts. The alcohol is very obvious. Almost a bubblegum flavor along with roasted malts, coffee and bitter chocolate. It sits on the palate nicely and has a good mouthfeel but the alcohol and medicinal flavor is strong. I am extremely dissapointed. its not bad just not up to par. Usually Founders is impecable.......I need to try this again.

UPDATED: JUN 27, 2011 Rerate vintage 09 in 2011. Outstanding. Pitch black color with a ton of yellow lace. Nose is roast, chocolate, earth, some ash, some coffee, but sweet chocolate. Flavor is an unbridled imperial stout. Roast All over with coffee and earthy chocolate up front, ash, coffee, and earth in the mid, finishing with chocolate and char. Thick and loveable. Thanks Gillard for the share. Pours a dark brown with a slight khaki head. Aroma is coffee bitterness, licorice, and a tremendous roasted character. Flavor is very earthy with roasted characteristics, licorice, coffee, and a tiny bit of bittersweet chocolate with some bitterness and faintly noticeable floral hops. Finish is bitter. Nice Imp Stout. licorice,

Pours a black black color with a tan head that’s about two inches tall. Some earthy bitterness and lots of liquorice and coffee. The flavor has all the coffee and chocolate you’d expect along with with a good dose of liquorice and some faint smoke. There might be some milky sweetness too. It’s in like every other sip. Thick but not the thickest. Really solid.

Bottle from a trade a few years back...I’d say this is an 06 bottling...possibly an 07. Pours out black with a small brown head. Nice aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, dark fruits and some burnt sugar. Very nice smooth mouthfeel with no note of the 10% ABV. Taste is complex, roasted malts, some bitter chocolate, dark dried fruit and some other lingering sweet notes in there, very well balanced.

12 oz. Opaque and dark pour with a thick tan head. Smoky and sweet smelling, banana bread, chocolate, piney hops, coffee, vanilla, earth. Similar but less complex flavor. Smoky and bittersweet chocolate finish. Alcohol is apparent. Really great finish. Thick on the palate. Very nice.

Pours an opaque black with a small head... Nose of roasty malts, slight notes of coffee, chocolate and raisin... Flavorful, creamy, roasty, with a touch of alcohol in the finish... Robust roasty flavor with notes of chocolate, black licorice, and coffee... Full bodied but not overly full... Excellent stout...

12 oz bottle served in a tulip. It pours deep black with a 1/2 inch brown head. The aroma consists of chocolate, some sort of fruit, malts and soy sauce. The taste is very good for the style. The finish is bitter chocolate, plenty of hops and coffee. Highly recommended!

12 oz bottle from Spirits RB. Pours a thick bodied pitch black with a sizeable creamy chocolate brown head. Initial aroma was on the sweet side with notes of vanilla extract, chocolate, black olives, soy sauce. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation and well hidden alcohol. Luckily the olive and soy sauce flavor don’t come through but lots of roasty and burnt notes take center stage. Some burnt coffee grounds and bitter dark chocolate notes are also detected. Yet another winner from Founders, I Love those guys.
