COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A fine companion to end a meal or relax in front of the hearth with, this robust ale will cellar well for years. Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley this stout is extremely smooth, complex and rich in body. We recommend serving at cellar temperature. Sit back and enjoy its richness and complexity, you’re about to drink the ultimate winter warmer.

Sampled at another monday night football tasting over at scottyp’s. Near black pour with minimal brown head. Sweet roasty nose is overpowering in the flavor, massive sweet cherry almost sickly sweet. This is a decent imp stout, but way too rich for me.

Bottle from my supervisor...Proot that I must be doing something good at work. DAABSTOAMPN. Thats Dark as a black steers toucous on a moonless prarie night for all of you non Lebowski-ites out there. Photon eater as well. Gentle nose of cereals as it pours from the bottle. Burnt sienna head. Nose builds to tart coffee. Head craters and clings to sides of glass, eventually staying at a nice quarter inch as it warms for twenty minutes and is steadilly renewed. First touch yields a head shaking bitterness that nearly leaves me with a slight concussion. Large quaff mellos the acrid tartness. Body is shortlived and has some lingering heat. Alcohol is well hidden but you start to feel this critter pretty fast. Glad the coffe bits toned them selves down a notch or two as it warmed.

POurs pitch black with thin brown head. Nose is alcohol, roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, licorice, fig. Flavor is thick chewey cocoa and roasted malt. Licorice, figs, smoke and bitter hops. Awesome. Awesome.

Nice aroma, but interesting. Chocolate, coffee, typical flavors. Warming sensation like hard liquor. All the usual makings of an imperial stout, but done about as brilliantly as it could have been. Fantastic.

I have been consistently dissapointed with Founders beers for some reason. This was decent. Surprisingly thin and light bodied. No creaminess. Flavor dominated by roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Something else would have been nice. Light alcohol taste in the finish. Moderately dry, but no hops, just some bitter dark chocolate. Fairly drinkable, but not great.

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2009 Bottle from coldbrewky via generosity. Pours as thick and black as old motor oil. Small tan head with great lacing. Rich aroma of deep chocolate, cream, and coffee with a touch of smoke. This Impy Stout goes down smooth as silk. I’m tasting roasted malt, dark chocolate, and espresso flavors. The finish is clean and dry with a bit of hops. Thank you coldbrewky and quierocerveza for this spectacular I.S.

Bottled aged approximately 2 years. Pours black with a small but notably dense chocolate head. Aroma is full of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and a hint of smoke...luxurious and inviting. Flavor is similarly heavy on the roasted malt with a strong chcoolate note...some coffee and an overall sweet feel. A bit of bitterness hits at the end to keep this one from being too one-dimensional. Silky smooth on the palate and easy to drink for the ABV. Great offering from Founders...might have to revisit both, but would give this one a nod over the regular breakfast stout at the moment

Bottle. Almost black, opague. Cream, dark chocolate and ash in the aroma. Roasty creamy flavor with dark chocolate, ash and smoke, partly hiding the intense earthy hopbitterness. Long aftertaste. Excellent, very tasty, well balanced and powerful imperial stout, with some warming alcohol.

From coyotehunter via trade. Poured super dark, almost black. The head was brown and at least one-finger tall. The aroma was plenty of pine and cedar hoppiness over some roasted coffee and chocolate. The flavor was a nice blend of dry chocolate, slightly burnt coffee and hops. Dry mouthfeel and a clean finish. Easy to drink. Really well done.

This is a very good stout. Pours dark as night with a chocolate head which dissappears quickly. Its flavor is coffee like with a smooth bitterness. Finishes with a long slow goodbye of malt and bitterness.
