Smells very roasty, chocolately, and boozy. Will be cellaring some for a while to see how it smooths out as it has a bit of an alcoholic bite to it. Bitter and very thick. Very rich, very smooth.

Pours dark red, almost black color with a minimal head. Aroma of ash, dry chocolate, roasted malts and mild licorice. Flavor of licorice, roasted malts, dry chocolate, faint bourbon and vanilla. Dry chocolaty palate. Excellent.

Pours pitch black with a tiny head. Aroma of strong roasty malts, cocoa, licorice and coffee. Taste is roasty, malty and sweetish wit some licorice, cocoa and chocolate notes. Finish is smooth and roasty. Nice, quite balanced imperial stout.

Draught @ CBC2013. Pours a pitch black colour with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate and bread. Flavour of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, biscuit and mild licorice root notes. Full bodied, thick and dry mouthfeel with a warming, roasty bitter finish. What a balance!

Pours black with low tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla. Taste is coffee and chocolate bitter with a light balancing sweetness. Body is full and creamy with low carbonation.

Classic imp stout. Nose is chocolate, coffee, vanilla, dark sugars. Taste is very much coffee and dark chocolate, with dark fruits, vanilla and dark sugars.

This is a good beer, it is not too huge or overwhelming. Nice dark appearance and head.

Pour is jet black with a thin dark tan head. Nose is roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee. Taste is bitter coffee and dark cocoa with hints of toffee adding a bit of sweetness. Mouthfeel is thick and heavy. Very good version of the RIS

Bottle as shown. Pours a very dark brown with medium tan head that lasts awhile leaving spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is chocolate and roasted malt. Medium mouthfeel with a chocolate roast and light smoke in the finish. Easy to drink, hiding alcohol well, a very good imperial stout from Founders.
