A fine companion to end a meal or relax in front of the hearth with, this robust ale will cellar well for years. Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley this stout is extremely smooth, complex and rich in body. We recommend serving at cellar temperature. Sit back and enjoy its richness and complexity, you’re about to drink the ultimate winter warmer.

Appearance: Black with a brown head that quickly dissipates. Nose: Intensity is medium plus. Prominent black fruits and candied fruits on the nose. Bitter chocolate is also present. Alcohol is present. A little sherry and stewed fruit as well. Palate: Body is full minus. Texture is slick plus. Carbonation is soft. Taste: Taste is similar to the nose. Black fruits, candied fruits and bitter chocolate are most powerful flavors. A surprising flavor of smoke starts the long-minus finish followed by sweeter chocolate. A powerful fruit forward imperial stout. It should age well.

Bottle at Bedford Beer Festival 2014. Black with a mid-brown ring of head. Indescribably utopian aroma: salted caramel, Madagascar vanilla, treacle, Marmite, pancakes dripping with real Canadian maple syrup. Gorgeous sweet chocolatey taste only tempered by a tickly back-of-the-throat bitter. Syrupy mouthfeel with a toasted marshmallow finish. Coffee overtones in the aftertaste. Carbonation just enough to tease. In short are wonderful remarkable voyage. And in no way does this taste anywhere near 10.5%. Better than sex.

355ml bottle from Pearl Street Beverage . Pour pitch black with a small light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate and coffee, with vanilla and cream. Same for the taste, I smell and taste everything that I have expected from an Imperial Stout. A perfect example of craftsmanship from Founder’s !!!

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Very dark black colour, dirty brown head. Looks suitably filthy and oily. Big roasted character, coffee beans, hint of chocolate, warming boozy feel but not really burning. A serious beer, well balanced and drinkable (slowly).

12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours inky black with a 1-2" tan head. Nose is subtle peat, dark chocolate, very nice! This would be unbelievable with some bourbon barrel aging. The alcohol really sneaks up, very slight burn. I really enjoyed this one, nice balance.

Taste: sweet start, mocha, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, little sweet, caramel. Aftertaste: pretty bitter, charcoal, hoppy, cocoa powder, some alcohol, mocha, coffee.

Bottle from O'Briens. Pours oily jet black with a small dark coffee coloured head. Head doesn't last long but lacing remains throughout. Initial aroma is of chocolate, dark fruits and coffee, with dark chocolate notes becoming more prominent as the beer warms up along with a small hint of the alcohol. Taste is similar to the smell, loads of dark fruit, raisins, dark chocolate and coffee bitterness on the finish. Alcohol is nicely disguised. Texture is really smooth.

"wish list brew - lived up to expectations, even though we had it with a few other beers. A little of everything...big viscous body, hoppy, bitter chocolate, coffee, licorice. pretty nice all around...does nothing to make Founders anything but one of the best brewers out there."
