A fine companion to end a meal or relax in front of the hearth with, this robust ale will cellar well for years. Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley this stout is extremely smooth, complex and rich in body. We recommend serving at cellar temperature. Sit back and enjoy its richness and complexity, you’re about to drink the ultimate winter warmer.

Clugs into the glass like used motor oil. A thin, orange-brown, caramelized head forms. Smoky, chocolatey aromas waft from the glass. Thick, chewy sticky texture. Smoky flavor overarches the chocolate sweetness and olive.

Pours totally black with a brown head. Aroma is malt, roastiness, coffee, chocolate and some caramel. Taste is high sweet leading to a roasty finish. Awesome!

Bottle 35,5cl. First of all I didn’t think it was beer pouring out of the bottle, but oil or something else. Deep black with a dark brown head. Aroma of chocolate, tar and coffee. Extreme intense flavour of concentrated coffee (espresso), dark chocolate and a very long finish with a perfect bitterness to round of a fantastic beer. Absolute recommendable. A truly fantastic beer.

Black with a brown head that quickly dissipates. All the usual suspects are there on the nose, chocolate, coffee, dark molasses with hints of soy sauce, vanilla and liquorice. The taste is big and bitter-sweet throughout, but with bitterness winning on over time. Low carbonation but a body that just won’t quit. No surprises here (except perhaps for that tremendous body), but in this case that’s a good thing.

From a bottle. Pours black with a creamy tan head, laces well, super truck with rich coffee flavours, chocolate aroma and bitterness. A great beer!

Pours black with a light brown head - light and fluffy with sturdy lace. Dark berries on the nose with a little coffee and cocoa hint. Extremely well balanced flavours - slight licorice taste, a little burned coffee and some thick toffee; surprising little bit of bitterness at the end. Excellent mouth feel - coats well, nice density and a little carbonation to boot.

UPDATED: AUG 16, 2014 Pour pitch black. Intense, thick and luscious. Sweet finish despite 90 IBU. Really nice - it’s hard to imagine a better imperial stout. Only potential drawback is that it’s too rich for me to drink a whole bottle myself.

Bottle. Pitch black body, medium creamy off-white head. Nose is sweet licorice, chocolate, leather, mild brandy tones, hints of coffee and dark berries. Taste is licorice, leather, chocolate, coffee, hints of bitter herbs, burnt sugar, dark berries and muscovado sugars. Full, creamy body, soft to medium carbonation. Solid, classic American-style imperial stout from Founders.

355ml bottle. Pours an inky black, with a moderate tan head, which lasts well and leaves good lacing. Bittersweet dark chocolate, Turkish coffee and a nutty, savoury note make up the aroma. Herbal hops up front soon give way to rich, bittersweet dark chocolate, which is joined in the mid-palate by strong espresso. A nicely weighty finish offers meaty, saavoury flavours. A very nice imperial stout indeed.
