4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Thanks to Momar42 for the bottle! 12 oz bottle poured into a Duvel tulip.
A: Pours an ultra-viscous looking pitch black color. Itís an amazingly heavy looking monster. The head is a one-finger dark tan color with fantastic texturing. Retention isnít perfect, but the level of lacing is downright beautiful. It just looks amazing.
S: Wow, this is one of the most chocolaty-smelling imperial stouts Iíve ever encountered. There are also notes of hazelnut, cream, vanilla, roasted malts, coffee, and slight dark fruit. No frills, but fuckiní fantastic regardless.
T: It seems like Founders took the basic essence of a standard-issue RIS and distilled it into rapturous glory. I first notice flavors of cream, vanilla, and chocolate; before roasted malts envelop the tastebuds. The umami qualities on the finish are glorious, melding together with anise, tobacco, and pine flavors. It has just enough complexity to keep the palate guessing, while being simple enough that one can easily pick out the differing handful of flavors. Yum.
M: You wouldnít expect such a thick, creamy monster to be so drinkable - but the delicately dry finish and brilliant alcohol concealment means this will be all gone before you know what to do. Itís not so dry as to render its aftertaste gutted, however; some syrupy linger remains without creating overpowering sweetness. One of the best RIS palate feels Iíve ever encountered outside of Nogne Oís RIS.
O: Founders didnít reinvent the wheel, they just showed every other brewer how it should be made in the first place. A brilliant reminder why this is my favorite style out there, and a not-so-brilliant reminder that this was the only bottle I had. :(

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Out of the 12 fl. oz. bottled 1/6/14. Jet black pour with full, dark chocolate brown head that fades slowly and leaves lacing as it dissolves. Bold aroma of roasted malts and baked chocolate along with a hint of dry dark fruit and an earthy note. Full and creamy body and texture. The chocolate and dark malts dance upon my senses in the flavor too with a brilliantly bitter but balanced, dry finish. Alcohol totally integrated and muted. Reasonable price for such a wonderful beer. A new Top 10 for me.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours about as close to black as Iíve seen, with a small but dense light brown head. Wonderful smell, raisin, boozy. Bold flavors, bitter roasted coffee, cherry, hops. Better and better the closer it got to room temperature, in my opinion. These last few sips are so smooth and balanced. Terrific!

This beer has great aroma, beautifully colored as a caramel and a strong bitter taste. To strong for me.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at Moriartys. Poured black as sin with a deep brown head. Slight lace. Not much aroma. Big ashy dark chocolate caramels flavors. Burnt pecans in molasses. Truffles (of both the chocolate and mushroom variety.) Charcoal grill. Greek coffee. Celery hearts. Plum pudding. Vinyl jacket with cigarette burn holes. Strong flammable bite, though still finishes much smoother than most 10.5 ABV brews do. Not as full bodied as the Breakfast Stouts but a nice huge dark spike for stouts in general.

4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Nose is brown sugar, treacle a little vanilla. Taste, is brown sugar, treacle, leading to dark fruits, then a little smoke, rich chocolate espresso and oak in the finish. Mouthfeel is velvet.
An outstanding imperial stout, though the nose was a little muted.
