On tap, pours a deep black. Strong coffee and boozy aroma. Taste is coffee, roasty, chocolate, alcohol, very smooth. Damn good.

Pours inky black with a frothy brown head that quickly disappears. Aroma is rich chocolate and roasted malts. Low pine hops and vanilla. Taste is silky smooth, roasted malts, loads of bitter dark chocolate and a great pine hop bitterness in the end. Great beer.

Bottle. A few weeks past BB date but that’s how it appeared on the local shelves (I know that in most cases it doesn’t hurt Imperial Stouts to go past BB). Pours a body as dark as they come and with a medium tan head. Aroma has sweet dark cocoa beans and liquid chocolate. Well, this is indulgent. Taste has all the classic Imperial Stout flavours turned up to the max and then some more. Very silky and rounded mouthfeel. I always like it when the alcohol in an Imperial Stout is not upped to silly levels (a la Brewdog or Mikkeller) and the beer is made with drinkability in mind, as it always should be. This is an excellent example of an Imperial Stout.

(Founders Imperial Stout) Bottle 355 ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 10.5% The pour is thick as oil, totally black, with a small dark brown head on top. Good retention, leaving light lacing behind. Aroma is heavy on olive pit, roasted malts, light coffee, light alcohol. Great taste, roasted malts, some vanilla, alcohol present but not annoying, ash, coal on the finish. Thick full body, carbonation on good levels, creamy and smooth feeling on the palate. Really good.

opaque dark brown black with dense brown tan foam with fluffy hot chocolate crown. Rich, chocolate milk shake, Tia Maria, sherry soaked dry fruit and vanilla. Full bodied, slick, initial coffee bitterness, chocolate cocoa sweetness, leafy bitterness, chalky body, bitter with hop bite, toast, dry, sticky. Decadent toasty chocolate, roasty fruity finish

Pich black with a one finger high, beigebrown head. A lot of lacing on the glass.

Nose: Roasted caramel malt, dark chocolate, soy sauce, vanilla, cream, raisin, espresso and a little smoke.
Taste: This is so good! Vanilla ice-cream, chocolate, dark malt, cocoa, roasted malt, molasses, dark syrup, brown sugar and dark bread.
Body: Full body with little carbonation. Smooth, creamy feeling and great bitterness that kicks in at the end.

A masterpiece!

Bottle from Rehills of Jesmond. Pours black with a nice chocolate head. The taste is rich chocolate pudding with coffee and a little liquorice. Some spiciness to go along with it. Nice warming alcohol. Luxurious mouth feel. Excellent beer.

Bottle from Pothole in Tallinn (€ 4,60). Pours... black as a raven in the night. Brown head is thick but brief, lacing nicely, retains around the edge - initially - disappears completely after only a while. Aroma... that just kicks me off my socks... humongous thickness filled with chocolate and raw cocoa butter, red berries soaked in rum, liquorice and roasted malts, coffee and wild cherry liqueur... Robust yet soft. Accidentally dipped my nose in the beer for at least 5 times - it’s that good. There is only this distinct note of doughiness (?) that I dislike that keeps me from giving it a 9/10. Taste is liqueury-chocolaty, wild red berries and dark fruits, did I say chocolaty?, considerably bitter, roasty... Full body, thick vinous and sticky palate, smooth velvety mouthfeel, carbonation kept low but there’s detectable prickliness in the throat, the lingering finish is bitter of some indistinct fruits and resin. Alcohol fairly hidden but I’d still guess it to be around 10.

This beer is awesome. Kind of makes me afraid of all the allegedly even better American beers that I haven’t had and are not sold in Estonia... and the other Founders’ beers I still have in the fridge...
