COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A fine companion to end a meal or relax in front of the hearth with, this robust ale will cellar well for years. Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley this stout is extremely smooth, complex and rich in body. We recommend serving at cellar temperature. Sit back and enjoy its richness and complexity, you’re about to drink the ultimate winter warmer.

Aroma is very toasty with chocolate, there is a very slight alcohol aroma. The appearance is very dark, with no head (poured out of bottle into pint glass), it is very hearty with legs that crawl back down the glass. The malt is very complex, with cocoa, caramel, coffee, it is both toasty and roasty, the palate is long and fantastic. This is a great beer, plus with the 10.5% it is warming as well.

Heavy body with an intense bitterness/burnt taste. Fairly dry, although far from easy to drink. I don’t pick up a whole lot of complexity, and the bitterness is tough to work through. Alcohol is hidden and the mouthfeel is a little flat.

bottle, 2011 vintage. Aroma is roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark fruits. Appearance is pitch black with minimal and quickly dissipating head. Minimal lacing. Full bodied with a thick creamy texture. Light carbonation. Taste is more dark fruit, roasted malt, chocolate, licorice. Alcohol is there but subtle for the abv. Overall great beer.

pours inky black with a small and decent beige head, some retention and lacing. very fresh roastiness, chocolate, coffee, resin, hint of vanilla and milk chocolate along with dark cocoa, roasted coffee bitterness and acidity, slightly ashy but maybe more smoky, also burnt hazelnuts, lightly boozy - i guess relatively well hidden for its abv. soft carbonation, full body, very nice bittering coffee-resinous finish. nice balance. packed with fresh roasty flavors. much enjoyed!

Pours from the bottle black with a brown head. Smells of roasted malt and dark chocolate and fruit. Taste is smooth. Sweet upfront with a roasted malt, slightly bitter end. Some fruit, chocolate and smoke flavor. It is very good.

Tap @ CBC 2013. The pour’s black with a tiny head. The nose is rich roasted coffee, earthy charred malts. Vanilla, raisin bread, some burnt brown sugar. The taste is ashy roasted coffee bean. Bitter dark chocolate. Caramel. Nicely balanced. Oily body, fine carbonation. Overall, pretty damn excellent stuff.

Incredibly complex. Quite a bit hoppier than most imperial stouts. I prefer the style to be a showcase for roasted malts, but Founders goes for more of a balanced approach - almost like a darker version of an American Strong Ale. It’s great, but it doesn’t quite reach the top tier of imperial stouts.

Pours dark with slight tan head. Dark chocolate sweet aroma that is very enticing. Flavor is dark roasted coffee, with chocolate and slight black licorice flavor. As it warms up you can definitely find a dark raisin after tone. Very good stout that I am enjoying. I still like Old Rasputin better but this is very good
