A fine companion to end a meal or relax in front of the hearth with, this robust ale will cellar well for years. Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley this stout is extremely smooth, complex and rich in body. We recommend serving at cellar temperature. Sit back and enjoy its richness and complexity, you’re about to drink the ultimate winter warmer.

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2016 (2/19/13) Bottled 1/13 - Aroma is deep roasted malts, molasses, vanilla. Pours like engine oil; opaque, deep, dark chocolate brown. Thick tan head - recedes slowly to thin tan layer. The initial flavor is ashes - this flavor dissipates eventually, so let it breath; and sip don?t gulp - once you get past the ash, licorice notes, bitter herbs, burnt coffee. Viscous, chewy - absolutely coats the mouth - sip and savor the long finish. it doesn?t sound that appealing, and it is less then I expected of Founders, but it?s OK. Maybe bottle aging wil bring out it?s best - fortunately, I will be able to find out - bought a 4-pack. (1/12/15) OK the ashy-ness is starting to mellow some. The full on unctiousness continues. Aroma is bigger. Flavors are blending nicely. I’d bump my flavor rating up slightly. (3/1/16) – Better and better! A lot of the edge has mellowed out. The aroma’s first impact is organic dark chocolate, with a malt biscuit background. The dominant impact is a rich, chewy slightly sweet. The ash and licorice are still there, but they are subtle flourishes to the overall sumptuousness. Really good. Rating goes up again.

Pours like motor oil. Beautiful color. Smells sweet and coffee. Balanced. I buy this by the case. I’ve gone through four cases so far this year. An excellent Imperial Stout. My favorite.

Great beer. Has a very thick mouth feel, with aromatic tones of mild coffee, strong chocolate. The bitterness comes in the end.

Bottle from Alko. Dark brown with darkish brown head. Toast malt, coffee, vanilla and a hint of alcohol. Burnt with smoke, bitter coffee and licorice. Incredibly smooth palate and full body. A solid imperial stout with perhaps a bit too much alcohol for my taste.

Thick, beautiful, dark pour with a rich milk chocolate-like head. Strong stout aroma with a little alcohol bite. Gentle and thick in the tongue with a strong, big finish. Sipper, not a chugger.
