Pours dark with slight tan head. Dark chocolate sweet aroma that is very enticing. Flavor is dark roasted coffee, with chocolate and slight black licorice flavor. As it warms up you can definitely find a dark raisin after tone. Very good stout that I am enjoying. I still like Old Rasputin better but this is very good

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Hopsclation (17) - Chicago, - MAY 19, 2013
The alcohol is hidden so well its tastes like a standard stout, and if it was a regular stout it would be the best one on the market. It has the cigar bite of old rasputin and the dark chocolate coffee tongue coating of the breakfast stout. If you like subtle balanced imperial stouts, this might be the best one out there.
5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 Bestbrew1 (46) - Minnesota, USA - MAY 17, 2013
Perfect example of an IS. Founders set the bar on this one. Nice roasty flavor with ABV’s that are masked well enough that this beer is incredibly easy to drink despite the high ABV’s and the thickness of this brew. Awesome beer glad I have a few in the cellar for another time.

Beauty! Pours jet black with just a ring of head and some chunky lacing. Nose is chocolate and espresso. Aromas of bitter dark chocolate, espresso, some dark fruit and lots of bitterness in the finish. Body is creamy with some carbonation. Tastes are heavy sweet and medium-high bitter. Just a great beer.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 AZBennett (88) - Chandler, Arizona, USA - MAY 10, 2013
Bottle courtesy of Homer321! Pours black like an oil slick with a thin tan head that fades quickly. Aroma is charcoal, tar, roast, chocolate and wood smoke. Flavors are huge stout in character; deep roast, licorice, coffee, burnt caramel and a little ash over a big chunk bittersweet chocolate. The mouthfeel is perfect for an Imp Stout; thick and oily it sticks to your tongue and is just darn good. Overall, this is a pleasure to drink, so complex yet BIG and embodies the best of stout characteristics.
