It pours a pitch black color and leaves the same color body with a one inch tan foamy head that rises a bit and drops gently to a centimeter’s worth of head. Lacing is foamy and ringy, lightly clingy. The smell has coffee, malts, dark chocolate and just a bit of licorice really slightly in the background, all combined nicely and coming through in a robust sort of way. The taste is sweet and bitter at different times to show a fantastic complexity between the coffee to the malts, chocolate, and licorice. The palate is medium and smooth. It leaves a bitter aftertaste and finish. It is very drinkable. Overall, this is an absolutely awesome beer for its style and for me.

Bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Arome is of chocolate, vanilla, and roasted nuts. Flavor is very similar, though a bit overwhelming from the alcohol. Overall, quite nice, but a tiny bit off balance.

Bottle. Pours an oily opaque black with a mediumbrown, shallow, fine-grained head. Nose is dark fruit, chocolate, dried fruit, coffee, herbs, and soy-umami notes. On the tongue, it’s sleek, smooth, rich, and fat -- sweet and dark, coffee and chocolate with some licorice and mint, heavy but pronouncedly elegant and balanced. Finish is long and sweet anise chocolate. Massive brew, but easily one of the most delicately proportioned impy stouts I’ve had. It’s the beer equivalent of a dancing hippopotamus.

Bottle: Jet black pour with a very deep brown head. Good retention with lacing. Dense aroma- richly malty- tarry black malt, rich chocolate notes, truffle. Beautifully dense body- velvety texture. Soft alcohol sting with a peppery alcohol note. Warming with a dense malt character in the flavor as well. Very chocolaty, slightly boozy, soft fruity notes (raspberry, but not sour or acidic, just complexity from the malt profile. There’s enough roast, kilned/charred notes and hop bitterness to balance the huge malt profile. An outstanding Imperial Stout.

Black pour with a thin tan head. Matly, roasty, coffee aromas. Taste is rich roasted malt, burnt toffee, coffee, cocoa, with nice, slightly burnt toast on a bitter finish

Pours a pitch black color, with a small, bubbly head. Smells of creamy coffee, roasted malts, hints of toffee and molasses. The aromas are very well put together, with rich, slightly smoked, milk chocolate, tying all aromas together. Well balanced between coffee and malts, coated up by slightly earthy chocolate. Has a supersmooth mouthfeel, with a lower, fitting carbonation, revealing a medium bodied beer. Tastes of dough milk chocolate among earthy malts, wrapped up by whipped cream. A gentle coffee bitterness acts as a convincing counterpart to the malty chocolate, revealing a decent dryness, which got a sour coffee whiff to it. Coffee bitterness changes the chocolate appearance into a bitter chocolate direction. Finishes with lots of cream and an intriguing interplay between crushed coffee beans and slightly slick, bitter chocolate. All in all this beer convinces by its perfect composition, decent depth of different flavors with prominent chocolate and coffee, resulting in a great imperial stout. Both, coffee and chocolate, are on par, leaving a lot of space on the palate for a smooth, creamy mouthfeel.

Draft. Pitch black and topped with head the color of Nesquik that sticks around for a good long while. Aroma is resplendent with smoky cocoa, vanilla, toasted marshmallow and a hint of raisin. The flavor has a little less going on, thought there’s a nice amount of plum, raisin and molasses before a roastier espresso and toast finish. Surprisingly fruity, though smooth smokiness rises between sips. Creamy medium body, high prickly carbonation. A very nice, balanced and complex RIS.
