UPDATED: APR 22, 2015 A: Huge chocolate, coffee, and alcohol sweetness. Big tobacco note. A: Hands down the best looking beer Iíve ever seen. Pitch black with an epic brown and creamy head. T: Massive! As with the smell, huge chocolate note. A great coffee note as well that comes with some solid bitterness. Alcohol compliments the finish. Nice tobacco note. P: Carbonation is prime with a nice smooth mouthfeel. Goes down easy peasy. Overall this is a near perfect brew. Huge flavors complement each other well and are not overpowered by each other. A must try. Gahhh!!!!! I so want this to be my next perfect score but every time I come back and smell there is something off! This is the beer I absolutely look forward too. -From the 2015 version.

Bottle from Hannaford Exeter NH. Aroma is dark roasted maltiness. Appearance is opaque black with transient chocolate brown minimal head. No lacing. Taste is first half malty sweetness and second half bitter with alcohol noted in between. Palate is full bodied creamy texture with mild carbonation to sides of tongue and mouth and nice long bitter finish. Overall, a good tasting beer with great mouth feel, nice appearance but not fantastic and not overly great aroma. Very good, but not perfect by any means and not worthy of its current 100 rating. Close but no cigar.

Draught @ The Ginger Man. Inky black with small chocolate colored head, faint caramel aroma, low carbonation, mocha taste with strong alcohol undertones, long bitter chocolate finish with sticky bitter chocolate aftertaste. Another great brew from Founders!

Bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Arome is of chocolate, vanilla, and roasted nuts. Flavor is very similar, though a bit overwhelming from the alcohol. Overall, quite nice, but a tiny bit off balance.

Bottle. Pours an oily opaque black with a mediumbrown, shallow, fine-grained head. Nose is dark fruit, chocolate, dried fruit, coffee, herbs, and soy-umami notes. On the tongue, itís sleek, smooth, rich, and fat -- sweet and dark, coffee and chocolate with some licorice and mint, heavy but pronouncedly elegant and balanced. Finish is long and sweet anise chocolate. Massive brew, but easily one of the most delicately proportioned impy stouts Iíve had. Itís the beer equivalent of a dancing hippopotamus.

Bottle: Jet black pour with a very deep brown head. Good retention with lacing. Dense aroma- richly malty- tarry black malt, rich chocolate notes, truffle. Beautifully dense body- velvety texture. Soft alcohol sting with a peppery alcohol note. Warming with a dense malt character in the flavor as well. Very chocolaty, slightly boozy, soft fruity notes (raspberry, but not sour or acidic, just complexity from the malt profile. Thereís enough roast, kilned/charred notes and hop bitterness to balance the huge malt profile. An outstanding Imperial Stout.
