Dark beige head--perhaps the darkest one I’ve ever seen. Very thick. Leaves a coating of lace like a blanket on the glass. The liquor is nearly black. Lots of chalky cocoa to the nose. Dry, coffee flavors up front. Although it is potent at 10.5% abv, the alcohol warmth is missing--very deceptive. There’s a touch of cream to this beer. The body is extremely rich, like light cream. The carbonation is low so it is exaggerated. It’s too dry to be a dessert beer; it’s too rich to be a regular brew. But it is a special beer, worth seeking out.

0,355L bottle. Pours pitch black with small brown head. The head doesn’t stay. Aroma is intense roast, dark chocolate, coffee, malt. Flavor is intense roast, coffee, dark chocolate, some syrupy sweetness. Finish is intense roast bitter with slight touch of alcohol. Overall: very nice, very thick stout.

Bottle. Black beer with medium foamy tan head. Aroma of licorice, port anf slightly roasted coffee. Taste is dark mollases, licorice, coffee, chocolate and cream. Creamy and full bodied on the palate. Excellent, one of the best impy stouts I have tried.

Pours pitch black with a coffee-colored head. One of the darkest heads I’ve ever seen. Nose is really rich, with coffee, raisin, oak, bourbon. Flavor is loads and loads of coffee, a little burnt toast, a little bourbon, a little meat smoke, and a long, slightly sweet and burnt finish. I swear there’s bourbon barrel flavor in here, but this is definitely just the regular imperial stout. Really silky and smooth mouthfeel with a heavy body. Pretty great.

Appearance is black, opaque, a half-finger tan coloured head which goes quickly. Aroma- dark chocolate, chocolate fudge, vanilla, big roasted malt, caramel undertones, dark fruits and cherry skin. Taste- a bit like a dark chocolate milkshake at first, dark chocolate, espresso bitterness, vanilla undertones, plenty of roasted malt, hint of coconut, pretty thick and slick mouthfeel, clings to the mouth at the end. Alcohol well hidden. Really lovely stuff.

(35 cl bottle from Bradley’s Off-license, Cork; No visible BBD; Poured into a Tripel Karmeliet tulip) Pours pitch black with one finger toffee head. Decent retention, good regeneration and nice lace. Aroma is dark with notes of rye bread and syrup. Creamy texture, full body, soft carbonation and a lingering, bitter finish. Flavour is bitter throughout with the alcohol well masked and the sweetness nicely playing second fiddle to what I assume must be hop bitterness as it’s hardly very ascerbic. Girlfriend says: "It has a taste that is a bit like pancakes when they get a bit burnt like my mother usually makes them."

From Borough Market in London. Watery opaque pitch black with creamy milk chocolate-brown head that's very finely carbonated. Watery long lacing. Smells very raisiny, soy sauce, very rich roasted malt, bitter dark chocolate and hop. Taste is sharp acidic roasted malt, salty and quite bitter. Body is silky, medium-thick, very smooth. Astringent acidic finish. Huge complex beer but too much raisin (especially in the nose) for my personal taste.

@ Havregatan 141017. Bottle (355 ml) from Systembolaget (35:-). Roasted malty with lots of chocolate and coffee, quite sweet, medium to full body with an oily texture. The finish is long, dry and roasted with notes of chocolate and licorice.

Bottle from Borough Market in London at home. Thick black pour with brown creamy head. Some lacing. Aroma is caramel, very raisin/boozy, roasted malt. Taste is big. Lots of booze, roasted, a bit nutty and chocolatey, with a bitter finish that lasts a good while. Palate is very rich, not like Even More Jesus, but a good bit richer than Rasputin. Very good Imperial Stout but a little too much raisin for my taste (and a bit too little hops).

355 ml. bottle shared by Kraddel during the (Ice) Cider/Perry tasting @ Barely Legal Tasting Room. Thank you! Black, mocha head only on the sides. Nose is thick mocha with soy sauce & vegetable notes. Taste is bitter soy sauce, herbal, liquorish, sweet mocha, coffee, very bitter, chocolate. Ligher carbonation. Not a fan, this feels older, maybe age has not been kind to it?
