A fine companion to end a meal or relax in front of the hearth with, this robust ale will cellar well for years. Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley this stout is extremely smooth, complex and rich in body. We recommend serving at cellar temperature. Pours a really thick black tar or activated sludge with mocca cream head, sticks nicely on the glass walls. So thick that it feels like a concentrate compared to normal water beers. Intense smell with smoky coffee. Has aromas of coffee, dark chocolate and smoke. A bit of sweetness and strong bitterness. Alcohol hiding somewhere in the back, making me feel good. Something reminds me of the wood heated sauna by the lake at my home place in Finland. Maybe similar birch smoke memories. Full bodied and complex experience, enjoyable and impressing. This really catches the essence of an well produced beer with no compromise. This isn’t my favourite compared to other imperial stouts I’ve tasted, maybe a bit too smoky to my taste. Anyway an awesome beer.

Bottle from Rehills of Jesmond. Pours black with a nice chocolate head. The taste is rich chocolate pudding with coffee and a little liquorice. Some spiciness to go along with it. Nice warming alcohol. Luxurious mouth feel. Excellent beer.

Bottle from Pothole in Tallinn (€ 4,60). Pours... black as a raven in the night. Brown head is thick but brief, lacing nicely, retains around the edge - initially - disappears completely after only a while. Aroma... that just kicks me off my socks... humongous thickness filled with chocolate and raw cocoa butter, red berries soaked in rum, liquorice and roasted malts, coffee and wild cherry liqueur... Robust yet soft. Accidentally dipped my nose in the beer for at least 5 times - it’s that good. There is only this distinct note of doughiness (?) that I dislike that keeps me from giving it a 9/10. Taste is liqueury-chocolaty, wild red berries and dark fruits, did I say chocolaty?, considerably bitter, roasty... Full body, thick vinous and sticky palate, smooth velvety mouthfeel, carbonation kept low but there’s detectable prickliness in the throat, the lingering finish is bitter of some indistinct fruits and resin. Alcohol fairly hidden but I’d still guess it to be around 10.

This beer is awesome. Kind of makes me afraid of all the allegedly even better American beers that I haven’t had and are not sold in Estonia... and the other Founders’ beers I still have in the fridge...

Colored like molases, this beer smells of caramel, vanilla, and booze. Has good lacing, but no head retention....mostly due to the alcohol though. Tastes of lots of fresh chocolate and high alcohol.

Dark brown to black beer, dark brown head with filmy retention. Nose is roasty, coffee, dark chocolate, dried fruit in the background. The flavor begins semi-sweet with dried fruit, coffee and caramel, then develops into a bitter hardroasted finish with lots of coffee, dry notes, alcohol and roasty bitterness. Very long aftertaste with roast, coffee, chocolate and warm alcohol. Thick and massive istout.
