Chocolate and coffee aroma light smoke aromas. Pitch black with a tan head that fades to a whisp. Strong milk chocolate smootheness with roasty sweet coffee tones.

Aroma of raspberries, dark chocolate, and a touch of coffee with leather. Dark brown, nearly opaque appearance, big caramel foam and lace. Tastes very sweet raspberry up front, followed by bitter chocolate. Palate is thick, a little oily, and a bit flat. Overall, very good, a little too sweet for a full pint.

Bottle. Syrupy black pour with great tan head. Some nice lacing. Sweet malty nose. Syrupy body of sweet coffee bean tempered with roasty notes. ABV well-disguised here.

Bottolf: Black colour, big brown head. Aroma is dominated of lots of coffee, and caramelly, and dark choclate! Flavor had a a nice coffee, dark chcoalte and and a caramelly mouth feeling, some citrus and fruits! Medium to full body, medium to ling fruity dark choclate finish! Well done!!

(Bottle) Very impressive looking beer - thick very dark brown almost black with mahogany head. Very enticing aroma - rich and complex - malty, roasted, coffee, hints of toffee and chocolate. Fantastic palate - smooth, creamy, slightly sticky - reminded me at one point of an Irish coffee. The carbonation is soft and velvety and gives a very creamy, but not cloying mouthfeel. Hard to believe it is a beer not a dessert. Taste matches the superlatives already used - very rich and complex. It’s rich with toasty malt at the start, and whilst there is some nice sweetness it is both restrained and well balanced. There’s dark coffee and just the right amount of alcohol burn. There seems to be some creamy tastes, but maybe that’s the texture confusing me. The finish steadily and subtly develops a big dark chocolate / coffee / black treacle bitterness that persists. Overall, a very impressive beer.

Backlog rating. 12oz bottle from Utobeer, London. It pours a dark brown colour with a small beige head. Aroma is sweet and roasty with coffee beans, vanilla, wood and dark chocolate. Taste is sweet with a some bitterness from the coffee roasted notes and some sweetness with notes of vanilla pod, toffee and dark chocolate. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, great RIS

From Magnum Wines, Swindon. Pours jet black with a diminishing thin tan head, strong aroma of burnt malt & alcohol. Taste is chocolatey with vanilla, cherry and roasted caramel, velvety smoothness and bitter finish. Hubba-hubba.

355ml bottle. Pours black with a low, dense, deep tan head which settled to a light covering but left some nice lacing. Aroma of chicory, roasted malt, burnt wood, liquorice, prunes, soy sauce, dark chocolate and caramel. Medium sweetness and quite high bitterness. Full bodied, chewy but with a silky smooth, luscious texture. Low carbonation and a very long, burnt tar finish. Gentle warmth from the alcohol. A wonderfully complex drop and an excellent example of an imperial stout.

Pours inky black with a frothy brown head that quickly disappears. Aroma is rich chocolate and roasted malts. Low pine hops and vanilla. Taste is silky smooth, roasted malts, loads of bitter dark chocolate and a great pine hop bitterness in the end. Great beer.

Bottle. A few weeks past BB date but that’s how it appeared on the local shelves (I know that in most cases it doesn’t hurt Imperial Stouts to go past BB). Pours a body as dark as they come and with a medium tan head. Aroma has sweet dark cocoa beans and liquid chocolate. Well, this is indulgent. Taste has all the classic Imperial Stout flavours turned up to the max and then some more. Very silky and rounded mouthfeel. I always like it when the alcohol in an Imperial Stout is not upped to silly levels (a la Brewdog or Mikkeller) and the beer is made with drinkability in mind, as it always should be. This is an excellent example of an Imperial Stout.

(Founders Imperial Stout) Bottle 355 ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 10.5% The pour is thick as oil, totally black, with a small dark brown head on top. Good retention, leaving light lacing behind. Aroma is heavy on olive pit, roasted malts, light coffee, light alcohol. Great taste, roasted malts, some vanilla, alcohol present but not annoying, ash, coal on the finish. Thick full body, carbonation on good levels, creamy and smooth feeling on the palate. Really good.
