This poured a medium to darker brown colorw ith a beige head. Aroma was lots and lots of broubon, some woody notes and vanilla and toffee too. Flavor was much the same ,ltos and lots of bourbon, vanilla and woody barrel notes, some light chocolate and dark fruits and toffee. Very complex and tasty. Would have given it an even higher score if it wasn’t so freaking hot.

Disappointing. The tasting group I was at agreed that it was just okay. This is surprising as most of the reviews contradict a group of 9 people who taste beers daily. Oh well. Poured into a tulip. Picked this up just last week at the local market.

A - Half a finger of very creamy head. The brew was deep tan with a healthy amount of sediment floating around.

S - Sweet bourbon was my first though. Think of a very watered down old fashioned. Wood notes were a combo of oak and maple. Of course maple syrup was coming through as well.

T - Wood, whiskey (specifically bourbon), maple but all of the flavors were muted. Very weak, bland and almost running away from my taste buds. Someone made a great beer and threw a gallon of sewer water in it.

M - 50/50 bubbles on a swish. It’s a very boozy beer and the linger is a very burned and roasted maple syrup taste. Trust me, I live in New Hampshire. I know burnt syrup.

O - Meh. I have another bottle of this and I need to give it away.

Draught at TND: Sweet aroma of Bourbon, oak, malt, maple syrup, caramel, vanilla, light scotch, toffee, and a slight hint of alcohol. Poured deep amber/burnt sienna in color with a small, creamy, dense, off-white/tan head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer. Cloudy. Lightly sparkling. Full of tiny particles throughout. Complex flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of malt, Bourbon, vanilla, maple syrup, slight cola, light toffee, and a hint of bittering hops. Medium body. Viscous, sticky, then dry texture. Soft to average carbonation. Medium sweet, slightly bitter, Bourbon, maple syrup, vanilla, cola, oak finish is dry and sticky. 11.2%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

Pours a dark reddish brown with a small ring of bubbles. Huge aroma of maple syrup, butterscotch, oak, caramel and hints of mollases. Flavors are so complex. Layers of bourbon and maple. So smooth with no heat from the booze. A wonderful beer.

750 ml bottle of 2012 Better Half. I have enjoyed the Old Curmudgeon this is based on. Poured with an interesting light copper color that the light that reminds me of themolasses and maple syrup associated with this beer. I have to admit that at first taste I was unsure if I had wasted $17. Then I remembered that I had that same first impression with OC (I had it too cold). I let it warm up, sipping it over the evening. By the time I finished the bottle, I was impressed. This beer’s taste is unique. It is great...a nice change from all of the high ABV imperial stouts that are out there (and really great too).

Pours a clear copper color with almost no head. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, oak, vanilla, maple, and a whiff of alcohol. Taste was a bit sweet, but not as sweet as I’d heard it would be. Mouthfeel had moderate carbonation with a hot alcohol finish. Some time is needed to mellow this out. Still a very tasty brew.

Pours a clear reddish copper with thin off-white head, no lacing. Aroma is obviously boozy, but deeper notes of bourbon, oak, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, and maple. Flavor matches well and isn’t as sweet as I was expecting (in a good way). If the booze settles some in this, it could be one hell of a beer.

Pours a rich rusty reddish Brien with medium light brown head. Aroma is of bourbon, vanilla, light wood notes, light hops and sweet caramel malt. Taste is the same. No hints of syrup, but easy drinking.
