COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

330ml bottle served in a snifter glass. A: Pours a deep opaque oily black color forming a small but creamy beige head with medium retention that leaves some spotty and molasses lacings in the glass S: The smell is just perfect. Sweet and molasses. Delicious roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, bourbon and oak. The smell of oak is absolutely delicious. I’ve gave 5, but I would give it 10 if I could! :p T: Sweet and roasted upfront. Strong notes of roasted malts, candy sugar, caramel, bourbon, oak, vanilla, chocolate and coffee. Strong and delicious roast bitterness in the end. Alcohol is well hidden M: Heavy, dense, creamy and molasses body. Medium to low carbonation. Complex sweet and roasted aftertaste O: Excellent drinkability. Masterpiece [ BA Review @ 9/20/2013 ]

On tap at Rattle N Hum, New York, NY. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a thin beige head on top. Sweet, malty, coffee, chocolate aroma. Tastes similar, slightly sweet, malty, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, rich, smooth and utterly delicious. Great Imperial stout from Founders, so glad to find it on tap in New York City.

Sampled at the Extreme Beer Fest. Pours a pitch black color. Great aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee with a bourbon feeling. Great flavor of roasted and biscuity malt, coffee and chocolate, there’s also a bourbon feeling. Full body, liquorous texture. I can’t say I like it better than regular breakfast stout but it is as good, which is very good.

Sample at SBWF 2014. Black with a medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, some bourbon, coffee and light dark fruit. Taste of chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, coffee and some light dark fruit. Really smooth and nicely drinkable. Very well balanced, what a great beer! Well worth the hype. I am glad that I finally got the chance to try this one.

On tap. Strong coffee, bitter chocolate. A bit of dark fruit and mellowed out roasted notes, bourbon and vanilla is in there too. Alcohol presence, and a bit thinner than respective imperial stouts. Very overrated.

12oz bottles (2013 vintage I believe), courtesy of Chicago tasting crew. - Medium-thick motor oil with a fickle espresso cap. Dense, pungent aromatics of bourbon wood, with rummy alcohol waft overtones, burnt sugar, condensed chocolate syrup and tobacco. Tastes like cold espresso coffee reduced along with tobacco-cured chocolate syrup with a fair hop aromatic berry character, even some citrus rind. Mon Cheri and bourbon vanilla, dry wood show up at second sip. Thick, unctuous. tongue-coating mouthfeel with a dry laryngeal finish, the hidden place where those 70 IBUs finally surface. Also the Starbucks triple shot espresso linger for ever...if this is your night cap, you’m even take it to bed after having brushed your teeth. - Obviously delicious, although very dense and missing the breathy elegance and chocolate mousse levity that a yeast profile would impart: instead all flavour pockets seem smothered, plastered with thick, syrupy layers of chocolate and coffee. In this sense very much a member, if not one of the founders, of the bold bourbon-barreled "black hole" class of ImpStouts, a US branch of cultural horror vacui: finding a point of entry for graceful repose of the taste buds is near impossible.

UPDATED: OCT 6, 2014 Bottle shared with Sean. Brown, black, thin tan head. Dark chocolate, espresso coffee, woody notes in the nose. Flavour is out of this world, intense dark chocolate, bitter coffee. Thick, lush mouth feel. Finish goes on forever.
