This one pours black as ever, with a good etched tan surface. Up in the nose: cocoa, so much chocolate this year, itís insane....and I dig it. Coffee comes through in the secondary, and then the vanilla bourbon notes come through. I gotta say, nosewise, that this is beautiful, but no longer worth the trouble on the nose aspect vs. FBS for me. Flavor, vanilla, bourbon and american oak up front, upon moving to the posterior lingual aspects, I get an alcohol burn and some nice cocoa, but really more bourbon character - okay, this is way better than FBS, but still, in the current trade market, not quite $ worth it for me vs. Abyss. Smooth, but a bit hollow with a litter higher carb than Iíd prefer in this style. All around great brew, worth at least two or three tries. Really admire everything Founderís does. 4/3.5/4.5/3/4-
Thanks to Chaney for this brew!

A: Deep, dark, black ale with opacity which it seems difficult to overcome. No light, not even at the edge of the beer. No carbonation evident, just black, thick beer. When agitated, can get a small appearance to provide evidence of carbonation.
A2: Same as above. Add thick quilt of dark mocha head which hangs around. Little lacing.
S: Coffee, dark chocolate, hints of bourbon, good and sweet vanilla tones intertwine with plenty of malt goodness. This develops over the course of the beer and further accentuates the the chocolate tones.
S2: Coffee again. You know, the bourbon is just not here, too much coffee!
T: Wow. Itís the most chocolate Iíve ever experienced in a beer. Dark, +85% pure, but chocolate nonetheless. I almost want this beer to be served warm, oddly. So much coffee continues to highlight this beer, and I canít think but wonder how they did this. Just delightful. Just a hint spicy and hot with the alcohol.
T2: More coffee this time around. Still no bourbon. Why donít they just skip the barrel? Lakes and East Coast seem to be obsessed with coffee beer. okay, okay, thereís bourbon on the back end, but not substantial. Okay beer, not as good as the homers make out.
M: Heavy, thick, sticky. Dries the tongue, dries my life. Sucks me dry and compels me to fill my mouth with more of the seductive beer. Low carbonation. Well played.
M2: see above.
O: This beer is good, no doubt. My problem is with the bal presence. Hereís the thing, if you want to have a coffee beer, have a coffee beer. If you want to have a BBA beer, have a BBA beer. If you want to have a BBA/coffee beer, learn to balance them. I canít say I will pursue this as aggressively next year. Itís just not that great. Good yes.

Thickest darkest brown with a lacing whisked tan filmy head. Oily and near antiseptic booze, like heavy duty choc and bourbon lip salve. Initial taste is crisp and clean vanilla, probably the most impressive part of this for me - crystallised sweetness without being sticky or sickly. Increibly rich mouthfeel, tempered by a bourbon peppery lick on the palate. Sumptuous popping booze on the linger, crackling wood and a linger of cloudy gritty choc. Lovely, but I was expecting to be blown away.

Bottle, thanks Mike. Shared with the biggest bell end I could find. Black witg tan head that fades away. Aroma of chocolate, wood, licorice, vanilla. Taste of vanilla, wood, chocolate and licorice, some dark fruits, alcohol. Its not very thick (thatís what she said ;)) but clean finish with an alcohol hum. Very nice.

On draft at Ashley's. Oh my god. The pour is pitch black with a filmy dark khaki head. The aroma is boing with chocolate and coffee. The bourbon is well hidden behind a bot of vanilla and just everything I'm looking for. The flavor. Damn. Chocolate and bourbon and coffee and vanilla. They all mix incredibly as this coats the mouth. And the mouth feel. It's like a paint that I never want to get rid of. This is amazing. I love it!!!!

Thanks to Lukaduke for giving me my first taste of this beast a few weeks back. Doing a proper rating for #200 with a bottle thanks to Bvdubn. And thanks to the unexpected genrousity of bytemesis for giving me a bottle, which gave me an excuse to drink the one I previously had in my cellar! This is the 2013 version, 12oz bottle pours black with small half finger of tan head. Nose is rich chocolate, coffee, cream, subtle bourbon, subtle dark fruit, strong and complex. Taste is creamy dark chocolate, dark roast bitter coffee, mocha, very subtle fruit notes, the bourbon is almost at a level of perfection in the layers of this beer after about 8 months in the bottle. The mouthfeel is unbelievably silky and smooth, not too thick or too thin. Not boozy at all. The finish is bitter dark chocolate, faint smoky ash, vanilla, and a lasting subdued fruity warmth from the bourbon which hugs every inch of the mouth. Incredible.

Holy moly. Could this be my new favorite beer? Aroma is a bit of light chocolate and the head dissipated quickly. However, all the action is in the taste. Deep dark coffee with a thick chocolate finish. Ultra smooth velvety mouthfeel (like a milk stout). My mouth feels like I just ate chocolate. Canít detect the alcohol in this at all. Received via trade.

FROM NOTES: November 29, í13 on draft into a snifter at the Black Friday event @ Kraftrwork, Philly.
A: Big nose full of roasty malts, subtle vanilla dark chocolate notes, roasted coffee and bourbon (booze).
A: Blackest of night with the tannest of tan heads of about a finger and a half thick. VERY SEXY!
T: Dark chocolate notes initially that give way to some espresso/coffee notes with the bourbon becoming more evident in the finish. Aftertaste has a balance between the bourbon and the coffee flavors with the bourbon dominating more as it warms.
P: Creamy, chewy and silky with a nice low carbonation. Surprisingly very smooth for a beer that is 11.2%!
O: Outstanding beer. WORLD CLASS! Very complex. Coffee, chocolate, and bourbon are the primary flavors, as advertised to be. VERY, VERY RARELY does a beer truly live up to the hype, this is that rare example.

Bottle share from Edgar. Thanks brotha! Pours a jet black with a deep tan thin head in a snifter. Powerful aroma of coffee, vanilla, hint of chocolate, bourbon and roasted malts. The taste was amazing with deep roasted malts, dark chocolate, vanilla, light coffee and dark fruits. Full body, some carbonation. Finishes strong with a full bourbon oaked flavor. Lived up to the hype. Very very good.
