A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

2014 bottle. Iíll tell ya, I visited 5 different places around Columbus to score a total of 4 bottles of this stuff for 2014 at about $6 a pop plus tax. I got a single 2013 bottle last year thatís still on my shelf. Straight up, this beer is overrated. Iím not saying it isnít great, but itís just not as good as the hype suggests. Bourbon County Stout crushes this stuff. Dark Lord too, though very different. Served in snifter. Effectively opaque black; foamy-frothy dark brown head. Improves vastly as it approaches room temperature. Aroma extremely heavy chocolate, sweet, malt, vanilla, coffee, alcohol warmth; subtle oak. Big big flavor is heavier on the coffee than I prefer, yet not heavy enough to be an all-out coffee stout; lot of booze here too. The bourbon is almost imperceptible at fridge temperature but thereís still a lot of chocolate and vanilla. At room temperature, the bourbon is much more in-your-face. Smooth, bubbly, frothy, heavy mouthfeel is big but somehow not massive; sticky. Really very good, but Iíd be hard-pressed to make tons of special trips to get this for myself in future years. Over-hyped and the trade potential is the only thing that justifies the hunt for this. Walking into a store 5 minutes after its official release and the one case is already sold out. A young kid and his girlfriend appearing heartbroken that they were on the special email list and still too late 15 minutes after release. A Giant Eagle with a single case selling 2 bottles to a person when youíre lucky to get 1 anywhere else. Itís a really, really good beer, but the anecdotes around finding this drink overshadow the beer itself.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours black with a tan head. Taste roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, booze. I didn't like this, to much coffee flavor (I don't like coffee). I would not drink this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Full bodied, slick, warming, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, well integrated whiskey, understandably high rated but a bit OTT for me. A small measure is plenty

Uh yeah! From my first trade, thanks to PreisMJ! Have been looking forward to this. Bottle. Pours pitch black with a small, beautiful brown head. Aroma has milk chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, caramel, coconut, soft licorice and coffee. Taste has a crispy, dark roast, up front, as well as a little booze, followed by looots of dark, sweet fruity chocolate notes, vanilla, dates, figs, dried plums, raisins, dried coconut. Ends off with a nice and strong alcohol heat. Very smooth and balanced beer, that i could drink lots of. Full body and low carbonation.

12oz bottle. Black, with great tan head. Heady chocolate sauce and mocha coffee on the nose; sweet twist of bourbon and oakiness in there, light touch of roasted malt adds depth. Great nose. Taste is big on the coffee and darker choc - bitter choc. Some deep figgy stuff happening, big roasted malt hit. Velvety chocolate comes in, followed by a sweet touch of bourbon. Big full mouthfeel. No booze hint at all, very well integrated. Lingering bourbon and coffee, with a slight burnt smokiness on the tongue. Yeah, first class gear.

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2014 On tap, poured into a snifter. Delicious aromas of dark cherry, wood, chocolate chips, vanilla, cookie dough, roasted notes, and a faint bourbon alcohol come through to the nose. It pours black as night, with a deep brown, frothy head. The surface is a thick, soapy layer that retains well, leaving ample coverage by the end of the drink and also leaving a dense, full-sheet coating of lace along the glass. The lace, notably, looks to coat the entire glass in a cloak except for the side I was sipping on. It does eventually have a couple holes in the sheet, but man ... thatís a lotta lace! Itís highly sweet with a medium-light bitter. The syrup slick texture has a full malty sweet body to it with an abundant, but very soft, soapy carbonation. Itís a very clean, with tones of salted caramel, chocolate, caramel, nuts, and even mint. The finish is chocolate mint with a hint of juicy citrus. The aftertaste is mostly chocolate with a mellow, light bourbon caramel touch. This was quite an amazing treat.

Kveldens siste flaske delt pŚ RBHD-samlinga hos Asle BjÝrn: storboblet kort skum, brunsvart farge. Intens aroma av kaffe, bjÝrnebśr, vanilje og kokesjokolade. Smak og ettersmak som kommer til Ś vare helt inn i drÝmmeland - mÝrkbrent kaffe, bourbon, vanilje. So smooth. Velbalansert til siste finish. Blir bare bedre og bedre ettersom temperaturen stiger. En minneverdig stout i verdensklasse. Takk til Gunnar for kveldens beste!

Given as a birthday present. This is a very good and rare beer. Itís like great lakes blackout stout bourbon barrel aged, but maybe more chocolate.
