A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

2014 bottle. Iíll tell ya, I visited 5 different places around Columbus to score a total of 4 bottles of this stuff for 2014 at about $6 a pop plus tax. I got a single 2013 bottle last year thatís still on my shelf. Straight up, this beer is overrated. Iím not saying it isnít great, but itís just not as good as the hype suggests. Bourbon County Stout crushes this stuff. Dark Lord too, though very different. Served in snifter. Effectively opaque black; foamy-frothy dark brown head. Improves vastly as it approaches room temperature. Aroma extremely heavy chocolate, sweet, malt, vanilla, coffee, alcohol warmth; subtle oak. Big big flavor is heavier on the coffee than I prefer, yet not heavy enough to be an all-out coffee stout; lot of booze here too. The bourbon is almost imperceptible at fridge temperature but thereís still a lot of chocolate and vanilla. At room temperature, the bourbon is much more in-your-face. Smooth, bubbly, frothy, heavy mouthfeel is big but somehow not massive; sticky. Really very good, but Iíd be hard-pressed to make tons of special trips to get this for myself in future years. Over-hyped and the trade potential is the only thing that justifies the hunt for this. Walking into a store 5 minutes after its official release and the one case is already sold out. A young kid and his girlfriend appearing heartbroken that they were on the special email list and still too late 15 minutes after release. A Giant Eagle with a single case selling 2 bottles to a person when youíre lucky to get 1 anywhere else. Itís a really, really good beer, but the anecdotes around finding this drink overshadow the beer itself.

Blac color with a light tan head with god duration. Aroma has notes of roasted malts, ripe black fruit, coffee notes and some smokyness. Flavor has notes of black chocolate, coffe beans, roasty and toasty malts, some notes of bourbon. Alcohol very good hidden between roasty notes. Creamy, smoothy and dense mouthfeel on palate. Slightly bitterness in the final with a good presence of roasted malts.

Huge roasted aromas of whiskey and wood. Deep dark beer with creamy brown head. The creamy roasted flavor is thick and carry the vanilla bourbon softly. It is better then i could have ever imagined. The thick body helps everything blend like a milk shake.

355 bottle. Pours black with moderate head. Aromas of vanilla, rich milk chocolate and very dry black coffee. Flavors carry same. Rich and smooth with a little heat and residual sweetness. Beautiful. An American in Copenhagen...

355 ml bottle from Systembolaget. Pitch-black with a medium mocha head. Aroma of whiskey, coffee, roasted malt chocolate and alcohol. Taste reflects the aroma, but here the whiskey really gives you a punch in the face! Full-bodied, with creamy texture. Medium bitterness. Low to medium carbonation.

Review of bottle dated 03/05/15 Pours a pitch black body with a 1/4 inch dark chocolate head. Head retention and lacing are average for a barrel aged imperial stout. Smells of vanilla, coffee, chocolate malt, and burnt oak. As beer warms, sweet bourbon comes through. Taste is of cold bitter coffee, charred oak, with a warm bourbon finish. Sweet vanilla comes in and out but bitter coffee and alcohol are main flavors. Mouthfeel is medium but for such a dark and high abv stout, not the desired consistency. Head added nothing to the body. Overall this beer had all the characteristics of a bourbon barrel coffee stout, it was one of the originals after all, but it just falls flat for me every time I try it.

(Thanks, Brandon "Clownoisseur") Bottle. A- Bourbon, booze, milk chocolate, tootsie rolls, subtle coffee, oak. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Bourbon, booze, chocolate, tootsie rolls, subtle vanilla, subtle coffee. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- What a beauty of a beer. Got this bottle fresh and while it seems to be preferred fresh, I decided to wait a few month, 9 to be exact to let it settle a bit as I like the regular Breakfast Stout best at 2 years of age. Man, I almost wish Iíd have waited a bit longer. At first pour, this is heavy on the booze, booze, booze. Almost all you get. The head fades quick and the aroma remains but the booze subsides and out comes the chocolate. The coffee was very very subdued. The taste was a nice chocolate, rich, and complex flavor. The palate had a bit of boozy heat on the finish but still smooth. Overall, I have to admit I still prefer the regular Breakfast Stout, but this is nothing to shy away from. Amazing brew.
