A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

Draft. Black with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is chocolate and bourbon. First sip is unbelievable. Opens with a huge chocolate note fading to lots of woody barrel notes. Big wave of vanilla finishes it off. Subsequent sips are a lot boozier but still hit all the right notes. Palate is rich without being syrupy and overwhelming. I guess there's been a lot of backlash against this one but I think the hype is richly deserved. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle - rating #1000. Pours black with a big dense tan head. Aroma is a rich mix of chocolate, malt, bit of soy sauce and espresso. Taste is an immediate hit of chocolate that then turns into a rummy molasses middle, before a sharp espresso dark chocolate finish with a clear indication of the abv. Rich creamy palate. Great beer to mark this milestone!

355mL bottle from Beer Exchange. 2016 vintage 12.4% And so here we are IMPERIAL STOUT #100 Some people make occasions for such things - in this case, the beer is the occasion. Been a rather odd lead up - weather turned grey, heavens open up with howling winds, and I found a gosling in a trough half dead that I’m currently nursing back to health - it’s times like these you need something to take your mind off the world outside... A viscous obsidian liquid is poured from the body - thick, like sump oil. An espresso-like dark tan creamer rises up & holds; taking its sweet ass time to drop down into a dense cap & painting the glass with cappuccino-like stains in its wake. There’s an assault to the olfactory upfront - heavy on the bourbon undoubtedly, like cracking open a good bottle of Bakers - in itself complex with layers of vanilla, and charcoal, and sour mash grains. That combines with rich liqueur-like coffee, or maybe slow drip? Has a good deep cocoa note about it too, and burnt, almost blackened sugar. Mouthfeel is what gets me first - this is not nearly as rich as most beers of this strength - quite well attenuated, dry, rather boozy, warm, get some woody tannin in there - very reminiscent of a swig of good Bourbon - that smoothness, yet dryness. Palate doesn’t quite deliver what the nose promises, but it’s bloody nice! Bourbon up the wazoo - charred wood, sour mash twang, vanilla, toast, sort of overly ripe apricot, lots of wood! like massively. Chocolate, dark, coffee, strong, sugar, dark & strong & kinda burnt with burnt raisiny notes, smoky but not in a conventional manner. Smoooth finish, yet there’s a sort of acrid coffee & woody bitterness that counterpoints everything, sort of spurring you on as you take the journey. This is spectacular! And it must be said, I’m not a huge Bourbon fan (single malt Scotch fan), but the execution & intensity here is second to none!

Black color. Medium-sized , beige head . Chocolate, vanilla , dark fruits, caramel, wood and bourbon in complex aroma. Chocolate, coffee and vanilla dominate in taste which is even more complex. Warming, bourbon ending with wood bitterness ( which I don't like) . Is it a great beer ? Yes! Does it worth to hunt for it like crazy ? I'm not sure)) ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @home (Euro-vision 2016 tasting.) Pours black with a tan head. Nose is vanilla, some coffee, chocolate and a wee touch of whisky. Taste is along the same lines big dark bitter chocolate up front then some warming whisky notes, some vanilla a touch of coffee.

355ml bottle. Jet black colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, fairly lasting and lacing, tan head. Vanilla and liquorice aroma, hints of oak, some leather, a touch of coffee in the background. Taste is initially coffee dominated, roasty dark malty, later Bourbon and vanilla-flavoured; warming, minimally alcoholic finish. Full body, oily texture, slightly sticky palate. As the label says: "A Favoured Stout"; therefore a somewhat empty feeling of a strangely "neutral" basic beer remains.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2016 Perfekt!! Klar!!! A big thanx to Maui. Yippie ✨

Subliem.

Tap at CBB Bud, Founders launch in Kansai. Black as night with a lovely tan head, great lacing. Massive bourbon nose that moves aside a little after warming and lets roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee through. Similar flavour, light vanilla, some ash, and the underlying bourbon booze. Very smooth to sip, warming, full and rich. First time to try, very impressed.

Tap at Founders tap-takeove, Devil Craft Gotanda, Tokyo. Pours deep brown, I mean almost black that has some brown notes. At first is quite cold but while it warms, starts revealing toffee-filled, bitter chocolate-cocoa mocha nose with some hints of bourbon. Taste is roast, coffee is actually not that strong, I am getting mainly bitter roast chocolate, dusty cocoa and some vinous liquorice. Tastes deep, alcohol is well balanced with the flavour profile coming out loud and clear as I let the beer get warmer. I can understand the craze around this beer, feeling lucky to enjoy it from tap.
