A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2015 2015: Appearance is the same as previous years. Milk chocolate hits the nose first in the aroma followed by bourbon, cherry, vanilla and hints of wood. The taste follows the same path as the nose with chocolate, bourbon, vanilla and a bit of cherry. The coffee presents itself much more in the taste with a smooth flavor. Also get some drying wood flavor. Some lingering coffee and roast in the aftertaste. Very nice creamy mouthfeel. Very well made with expertly blended flavors. 2014: Pours black with ruby highlights, a finger of dark khaki head that dissipates to an attractive foam with nice lacing. The bourbon comes through in the aroma and so does the oak from the barrels. Also some sweet chocolate and only a faint hint of coffee. The taste is at first sweet with cocoa and a nice vanilla, then the bourbon flavor appears along with a pleasant touch of alcohol warmth. You then get a chocolate covered coffee bean flavor and only a touch of bitterness. Finishes with more chocolate and a bit of oak woodiness. Mouthfeel is creamy and somewhat sticky with a medium/full body. Carbonation is medium with small bubbles. Alcohol legs appear in lacing. Exceptionally well integrated flavors that compliment each other and never overpower one another. A sipper that is highly enjoyable. ---Jeremy H

I grab this beer every year, one to have right away and a few to age for months to a few years. I’ll rate a fresh one( I wrote this review in my phone notes when it was released but forgot to submit here). Poured from the bottle almost completely black, thick and with just about a fingers worth of brown head. The nose is all barrel and alcohol before you get coffee and Vanilla. The flavor follows suit for me, the hotness of the alcohol hits first before it gets smoothed out by vanilla and coffee. The feel is thick like syrup but carbonated adding to the appeal of the beer. This is an outstanding stout that I will continue to purchase many of and enjoy!

12oz bottle. Pours black with a thick light mocha head. Smells strong cocoa and coffee roastiness. Unbelievable mouthfeel. Tastes like their breakfast stout but the flavors come through much, much more. Cocoa, vanilla and coffee roastiness. Lovely, lovely beer. Well worth its rating.

12oz bottle thanks to Rene. Pours out black and oily, small tan head. Big, bold aroma of coffee and chocolate. Sweet chocolate bar, more coffee, roast grains, bourbon notes and vanilla. This one stands up to its reputation.

2016 bottle from Stone in Asagaya. Pours an oily black with a half finger of dark brown foam that dissipates quickly. Tons of cacao nib, roasted coffee and light vanilla in the nose. Some light wood on the palate with more cacao nib, espresso and lightly charred molasses. Light warming finish with some bourbon notes. Fairly dry. Great stuff.

Stoked to finally try. Strong vanilla and coffee flavours upfront. Finishes with some sweetness and oak. Really well balanced and hides the booze pretty well.

Vintage 2014: Pours black oily color with big creamy long lasting light brown head, which transforms itself to a ring like by espresso coffee. Visually low carbonation. Aroma: big coffee note, dark chocolate, vanilla, leather, oak, dark fruits, dried fruits, bourbon, oak etc. Flavor: double espresso coffee, dark chocolate, dark fruits, especially plums, vanilla, molasses, hint of licorice, intense roasted coffee bitterness-astringency, oak- vanilla - tannins, bourbon...finish is dry, thick. Body is full, texture is creamy, super smooth, carbonation is low.
