COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

Fresh ’07 bottle. Pours a deep, dark brown - almost black and a little oily. A light brown head foams up about a half-inch, but diminishes quickly. Some of it clings to the glass and provides a nice lacing effect, though - something I find in most Founder’s beers. Similar to the regular breakfast stout in aroma with big chocolate malts and dark roasted coffee at the forefront with a faint smokieness of wood and bourbon in the background. Huge coffee flavor still dominates, but is smoothed out and creamier with hints of vanilla. Extremely balanced, smooth and slightly chewy on the palate with just moderate amounts of carbonation. The bourbon really makes more of a presence as the beer warms, but it still maintains its incredible balance and smoothness. Very, very drinkable and some of the coffee bitterness has mellowed. I really like what the wood did for this one. Definitely a beer that lives up to its reputation. I’m glad I have more and some in the cellar from last year’s batch.

Fantastic spelled with a capital WOW. Huge, multilayered aroma with bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and coffee distinctly smellable. Thick and chewy. If KBS is rolled over the tongue enough, count on your tongue getting just a wee numb. Sweet finish but not as sweet as other imperial stouts. High ABV is definitely there to the point of this is a one-and-done-drinking beer if you’re driving the spouse home. Simply superior. Enjoyed on tap at MKE’s Landmark 1850 Inn.

Founders KBS has a thin, tan head, a super-dark brown appearance, some bubble streams, and noticeable tan chunks roiling about. Lacing is minimal. The aroma is of a strong bourbon smell, with background dark-roasted malts. Taste is of the same, with vanilla, chocolate powder, dark coffee, bitterness (not so high), and sweetness. Mouthfeel is mostly heavy, with a velvety aspect coming into play, and Founders KBS finishes somewhat powdery and fairly drinkable for such a strong beer. RJT

Strong bourbon notes on the aroma with notes of oak. Appearance is a very dark brown with a good sized tan head. Flavor has notes of chocolate, bourbon, oak and notes of coffee. Mouthfeel is full bodied with medium carbonation. Overall, this is a great beer. It definitely lived up to the hype. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Clear, very dark, chestnut brown. Film, and halo of beige head. It’s leggy, viscous, and in slow motion. There’s vanilla. Rum truffle. Chocolate caramel. A bit woody. Very rich. Taste is light sweet. Fruity dry. Palate is full, smooth, and unctuous. The coffee kicks in stealthily late. Finishes light bitter, and long, chewy, unctuously sweet. Never feels the ABV. Beautiful.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2015 Yep this is good. Dark black. Subtle coffee. Vanilla and oak. Chocolate. Incredibly balanced. No idea how to improve this other than copious amounts of vanilla. Tasted at cuginos with Carter.

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2015 Great beer, Henrik, top 5.0. Just one bottle...I think. Dark black, light brown head, lasting. Heavy malty, roasted aroma, vanilla, notes of coffee. Notes of whisky and barrels, alcohol. Flavor starts roasted sweet, warming alcohol, faint smoke from the whisky. Creamy, syrupy texture.
